The one I always see is in a bar in the SECURE area of DFW airport... It is required to be posted, but seems kind of moot.

I saw one for the first time last Sat. night. It was in a bar on 6th street. I still havent seen a 30.06 sign anywhere so far though. But of course I have only been carring for a little more than a month so far.

I guess this is the UT campus?

That's funny, carry in the buildings is illegal by statute, but the 30.06 notices are meaningless, since they're government buildings.

Yeah, same thing at Plano schools. Some of them have 30.06 signs on the doors too. However, all of their parking lots are posted with legal sized, but invalidly posted signs.

Wait a minute.

Colleges are off limits because they are government buildings? This doesn't sound right. I thought they were off limits because they are a school. If it were a government building thing, wouldn't there have to be a government meeting taking place? I don't think a class counts as a government meeting.

And what about the parking lot signs makes them invalidly posted? Parking lots can be posted and you said they are of valid size. Is the wording incorrect?

I believe he meant that the 30.06 signs were invalid at both UT and the Plano school parking lots because they are government properties.

That's what it sounded like, but it doesn't make sense. Government property, unless it is federal, is specifically not off limits. The premises of a building if there is a court or government meeting taking place is off limits, but the property itself is not. I'm certain I could be leaving out some details of certain situations. However, it's been noted many times before that a CHL holder may carry in a school parking lot or leave their weapon in their vehicle to go inside or pick their kid up. I don't recall reading anywhere that states a school parking lot is unable to be posted with a 30.06 sign.

Except for the case of a government meeting, government entities cannot legitimately post 30.06 signs. There may be other exceptions that I am missing, but if I know this place, any oversights on my part will be corrected forthwith. :)

And that's why I was confused by those two statements. :???:

You got it right, C-Dub, you just didn't follow how I was saying it. My fault.

- The campus buildings are off limits by statute because they're school "premises" (as defined in the statutes).
- The 30.06 signs on those buildings are legally meaningless, because it's government property.
- The 30.06 signs Keith B mentioned at Plano school parking lots are also legally meaningless because it's government property, and those parking lots are not off limits as schools, because they're not buildings.

Since you mentioned 6th Street, I am assuming you are an Austin person.

If you are not aware already, go to www.texas3006.com, sign up (it's free) and you
can search by "city" and then find all the Austin 30.06 locations. Of course these
listings aren't complete since the site relies on user reporting, but it probably catches
most of them.

When I look over the 30.06 list it seems that medically related sites are the most prone
to have them. Of course the Wall of Shame includes AMC movie theaters and Jared's
Jewelers, among other non-medical sites.
