hi guys this has been in my head for a while and cant find the right answer for it.hope someone will answer this.
what is the purpose to have 2 ccw? there are different kinds? one for resident and one for non- resident? i got a chl from texas which i m a resident.so do i need one since i work in louisanna? thank you guys

Several years ago, Texas did not have reciprocity with all of the southern states. I obtained a New Hampshire license so I would gain the additional states I needed. Texas has sinced negotiated reciprocity with those states, so I didn't renew NH.

So one reason is to gain additional coverage.

The other reason, in light of the length of time that TX renewals have been taking, is to have an overlap of coverage in case the TX license should lapse.

interesting..so how would i do that? just go thru the samething (class,fingerprint...)like texas in louisanna? so by that means.you can have up to fourty something chl for each different state...??

First, go here and select 'Who honors my permit":

That will show you the states that honor a particular state's license. Some states will honor a resident license but not a non-resident.

Then you can pick another that complements the coverage of your resident license.

Initially, FL was the most common choice. More recently, UT. There are UT certified instructors in TX. My NH license was $20/5yr requiring only a mailed application and copy of my TX CHL. There is a county in PA that will do the same.

If you look at the coverage, you can see that there would be no need to collect 40.

The non-resident NH license went up to $100 this past summer (July, I think).

so you said FL was the most common choise? if i really wanted one from FL or UT...what is the steps for that? do i need to have a valid address over there? how would i apply for that since i m not even in FL and never been there..dont know anybody there. thanks

Florida doesn’t require that you attend a class but is more expensive and probably more effort.

Utah requires an initial class by one of these certified instructors but not required for renewal. Utah is reasonable up front, including the class, and much cheaper on renewal.

This has been the most popular choice lately.

I recall what you're speaking of, though. Back in September or October of this year the LSP put a notice on their webpage that LA would no longer honor FL non-resident licenses. Someone in LSP made that decision without any statutory authority, and got jumped on pretty hard. They took that notice down within a few weeks.

It's still cheaper than Texas and without the class it was less effort than Utah or Texas.

I wanted Utah but couldn't find a class so I got a Florida license. It's good everywhere worth visiting.

Does anyone know about how long it takes to get a Florida? Utah?

Florida took a couple of weeks for me. It's not the cheapest CHL but it's very easy.
