Guys!! I m scare to death when I chambered a round in my xd 40 in my holster when I m walking in the mall or something.I m always afraid that it might go off on me and accidentlly shot myslef.how do u guys make sure this not gonna happen to yourselves?? Please please convice me there is no danger at all chambered a round in my holster...thanks!!!

Your XD requires 2 forces applied in completely opposite directions in order to discharge.
The force of your hand against the grip safety, and the force of your finger pulling the trigger.

The trigger, in a proper holster, should be 100% covered and inaccessible, therefore, it should be impossible for it to be pulled in a holster.
Even if somehow, magically it pulled itself (which it won't, unpossible.) your hand will not be on the grip safety, so it will not go off.. again.

Thousands of people carry that exact same handgun daily, and do not have it go off.

What dicion said. If your holster covers the trigger and has sufficient retention there's nothing to worry about.

I carry a XDM40 in a supertuck with one in the chamber all the time.

Don't take our word for it, try it yourself.
Clear the gun, empty mag and MAKE SURE no bullets in the chamber!!!
then cock it and place it in your holster. now try to make it trigger. You won't be able even if you'll try real hard.

Just make sure there are no bullets in the mag or chamber before you start this exercise!!!

As all the others have said...it ain't happening without the bang switch being pulled. A properly holstered gun is not going to go off on its own.

Don't Mexican carry, and try not to try and grab it if it drops.

Where have you heard such things? Can you cite reputable reports?

I entrust my and my life and my family members lives to my XD9 and have zero concern about it going off without my direct actions.

Modern firearms will almost never discharge when dropped, and I've never heard of one "go off on their own".

I carry an XD-40 every day with one in the pipe. There has never been a single time where I've even had the remotest concern about a negligent discharge.

Sounds to me like you've had a cup or two of the anti-gunners gun scare tactics kool aid.

Firearms do not shoot themselves. You can place your sidearm on the table and have a stare-down contest with it. Your sidearm will never twitch, shift, or move in any way. Much less fire a round of its own accord.

I can't think of any modern handgun--at least not one manufactured since the mid 20th century, and many before...like the venerable M1911--that will discharge a round if dropped onto a hard surface. Since the JSSAP (Joint Services Small Arms Program) tests in the late '70s and early '80s, pretty much no reputable handgun went to market unless you could load the chamber and sling that sucker onto concrete without a discharge.

Modern handguns do not shoot themselves.

They never pull their own triggers.

Some of my best friends are Mexican, but I don't dare carry them when their loaded because I'm afraid they might go off! Some of them are pretty big so even if their sober I try not to carry them.


That said, it did take awhile to get used to a chambered round pointing at my body parts when I first started to carry. But as stated above if you think about the mechanics of your gun (and you have a proper holster) you will get over it.
I carry a Glock and I'm confident that as long as I'm not in New York City I'm good. (Trying to be funny here as a few NYPD has claimed in the past that "their Glocks fired without the trigger being pulled". Pulling the trigger on a Glock disengages 3 automatic safetys - much like your XD).

I had a glock get knocked out of my holster 1 day while I was doing 130mph on my bike and cartwheeled down the road for a fairly long distance and it never went off. The gun was pretty much totaled but all 14 rounds including the 1 in the chamber were still there so unless you are going to abuse yours worse than that don't worry. As several of the other guys have said just get a good holster that covers the trigger and make sure it has good retention especially if you are going to get stupid on a back road with a motorcycle and always know where your sraps are when you are putting the gun in the holster.

Think about this for a moment. If you were standing next to a cop would you worry that his gun was going to just go off by itself and shoot you in the leg? I seriously doubt it. If guns had a bad habit of going off in their holsters you would hear about a cop being shot by his own gun in a holster almost every day. I know it can be a bit unnerving to carry with one in the pipe but you just have to do it, you will get over it eventually and you will not give it a second thought.
