A&M at Galveston Students Robbed

#1

Post by Aggie_engr »

Got this "crime alert" message in my school email last tuesday. Overall good advice, except the part where they left out advocating for those old enough and who qualify to obtain a chl and arm themselves. A speedy call to 911 will not save you/your friends lifes. They were lucky the robbers only wanted loot and didn't actually produce a firearm and shoot/kill one of them. :waiting:
ALL CAMPUS MEMBERS,

EARLY THIS MORNING, AROUND 1:30AM, SEVERAL OF OUR STUDENTS WERE ROBBED
WHILE THEY WERE ON EAST BEACH. THE ACTORS THREATENED TO GET A GUN BUT
NO WEAPON WAS USED BEYOND A CLOSED FIST. NO ONE WAS SERIOUSLY HURT AND
THE SUSPECTS WERE CAPTURED DUE TO THE QUICK THINKING OF ONE OF THE
STUDENTS AND THE QUICK RESPONSE OF THE GALVESTON POLICE DEPARTMENT.
MOST ALL OF THE STOLEN PROPERTY WAS RECOVERED AND RETURNED.

AS ALWAYS, WE RECOMMEND THAT OUR STUDENTS AVOID AREAS WHERE POSSIBLE
DANGER MAY EXIST, SUCH AS EAST BEACH AND ALWAYS TRAVEL IN GROUPS. BUT,
AS WE SAW HERE, EVEN TRAVELING IN A GROUP DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT YOU
WILL BE SAFE. THE LAST AND MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF ADVICE IS TO STAY
CALM AND USE YOUR HEAD WHENEVER YOU FIND YOURSELF IN A BAD SITUATION AND
YOU MAY BE ABLE TO SURVIVE AND COME OUT ON TOP AS OUR STUDENTS WERE ABLE
TO DO THIS TIME.

REMEMBER, IF YOU ARE THE VICTIM OF A CRIME OR YOU SEE A CRIME, THE SPEED
AND ACCURACY OF YOUR REPORT TO THE POLICE WILL HAVE A DIRECT BEARING ON
THE EVENTUAL OUTCOME OF THE SITUATION.

NO OTHER ALERTS WILL BE ISSUED ON THIS INCIDENT.
CHIEF MARTINEZ

Chillin' at home at 130 AM instead of the beach - that's some good advice too.

That must have been this incident: http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=29508" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Meteor showers are worth seeing. I don't recommend or make a habit of roaming around deserted areas after midnight; but when you have a good reason, you have the right to do so unmolested.

BTW, it is perfectly legal to have a loaded shotgun in your vehicle or on your person in public, and it would change the odds in this kind of situation.

East Beach is something of a no-man's-land.
They were lucky the robbers only wanted loot and didn't actually produce a firearm and shoot/kill one of them.
Or rape.

:iagree: ...but I also have to say that it's bull that we can't go out to the beach to see an amazing meteor shower....I know that it isn't a popular thing here, but I choose to not let BGs determine my schedule. I don't throw caution to the wind, but I certainly don't cower at the thought of enjoying life(even though it seems that this lovely world of ours is slowly but steadily turning into an pre-apocalyptic wasteland). I love Houston, but I have clear sight, and I see a once great city being run down and trashed by bad people....no thanks to our understaffed police department...which needs about 3,000 more officers to even have a fighting chance. OK, enough of the soap box rant. Have a great Thanksgiving!!!! :tiphat:

East Beach + 1:30am = Bad idea

Not saying that I've never been down there at that hour on that same beach(in my younger days) but I am glad that nothing more serious than a good ol friendly fist fight ever happend. Now that I look back we did some stuff that was not too bright and lacked common sense.

Glad to hear that no one was hurt and the BG's were caught. Hopefully this will be a big lesson to those kids.

My buddy and I always go fishing down there either early in the morning or at night, it is not the best place to be but we have always caught alot, I have a nice sized waterproof pocket in my waders that my CC fits into.
