The Squeaky Wheel may get the grease! ***Updated***

Post by krury »

My application for CHL has been in about 100 days. 42 days ago my status changed to "Application incomplete - missing information - detailed letter has been sent". The letter took 9 days to travel from Austin to Schertz (70 Miles). They were requesting my DD-214 which is not required on any checklists or law. I snet the DD-214 and they recieved it on August 6, 2009. However my status remained "Application incomplete - missing information - detailed letter has been sent". So I called today and asked about my Application status and that CHL recieved my DD-214 on August 6th and, just by coincidence she said my Application was scheduled to go out for background check today. I asked her how long that takes and she said it depends on the county of origin. I suspect that my phone call may have pushed my Application a tiny bit faster but, it could be wishful thinking. I will wait another month before I call my State Representative seems like they have more important things to do right now like holding town hall meetings and thwarting off socialism! :rules:

I sent a letter to my State Representative about 10 days ago by email.

Status as of this morning++++++++++++Application Completed - license issued or certificate active++++++++++++++
:fire :woohoo :thewave

It is likely your Federal representatives and not your State representative! Plus, whoever it is, is not doing such a good job anyway. Send the letter now!

100 days in and they have not started the background check yet? We need an "eek" smiley for that.

How long does this process generally take?

I was reading up on it and they have 180 days to fully process the application, and even if they exceed that time, there's no apparent penalty that can be applied. In essence, you just have to sit on your thumbs and wait for them to get off their collective asses. IMHO, taking more than 45 days is excessive, and waiting up to 180 days is abusive.

Unless I have missed a rather large change in policy, they have 60 days to fully process the application under law.

However as you well know you can't actually hold them to that.

AFAIK the background check is where the main delay seems to come into play and to be 100 days into the process with that now just getting started really is rather terrible. Check out the "waiting room" subforum, perhaps this is now the norm.
