Area's around Texas that are questionable about CHL
I don't know if this subject has been discussed or not, I'm new. I was told by a good friend, who was told by his instructor that the Beaumont and Port Arthur area cops give the CHL holders a hard time, even confiscate guns sometimes. Is this true and are their any other areas in TX that are tuff on CHL?
Thanks
Thanks

I know several LEO in the Bmt - PA area and none of them have any problem with CHL holders. However, my experience has been very limited so couldn't really tell you one way or the other.

Mr. Dickens, I'm fully aware of the law and how it works, but that wasn't my question.

The law is the law. If law enforcement agencies are violating the law then they need to be punished for it. I'll bet the Texas ACLU would love to help someone out with a Civil Rights lawsuit. I'll also bet that your State representative, State senator and the Attorney General's office would like to know about it.

I seriously doubt it, not in the case of confiscating a gun or other oppression of CHL holders. I would like it if this were not the case. However if you set fire to a flag or mount a protest blocking traffic without a permit and get arrested then they will jump all over it.bdickens wrote:The law is the law. Actually, mr.72, the TEXAS ACLU is not as rabidly anti-gun as some of the national and/or East/West Coasters are. In the 2007 legislative session, the TEXAS ACLU actually spoke in favor of one (or more) of the bills favored by TSRA. I believe it was either the Motorist Protection Act or the castle doctrine legislation. I was present in the committee room during a public hearing when they spoke. Imagine my suprise when they began to speak IN FAVOR of the legislation and later actually helped craft some of the wording. Like you, my previous impression was ACLU=ACLU. Such is actually not the case...at least in this instance. I am not sure if I would want one to marry one of my daughters, but I'll give credit where credit is due.mr.72 wrote:I seriously doubt it, not in the case of confiscating a gun or other oppression of CHL holders. I'll let others recall which of the bills this was. I have both slept and taken medication since that time and frankly don't recall. Hey! maybe I could be a politician...or a piano player in a wh... uh...bordello. Maybe the latter so as not to embarass my Dad.

The Louisiana ACLU has a case about returning a firearm.

It was the MPA, and they were bold about stating that The ability to defend oneself is a civil right. Its important to remember those have supported us, as well as knowing wh the enemy is.CWOOD wrote: I'll let others recall which of the bills this was. Texas is different, It shouldn't surprise aneone that the Texan ACLU is a bit different.

Actually, ISTR one of the East Coast state ACLU groups being supportive of some pro-CCW legislation. AFAICT, it's just the national organization that can't count to 10.CWOOD wrote:Actually, mr.72, the TEXAS ACLU is not as rabidly anti-gun as some of the national and/or East/West Coasters are.

I'd surrender my weapon as soon as I was asked, but if harassed.....IANAL, but I'd call one pretty quickly. Cop or no cop, they have to follow the law as well.
