Name was different when Misdemeanor happened
I have a question in regards to the application. There is a box for listing Aliases. Do I need to put all former married last names? I had an arrest 25 years ago that was under a different last name then. I am not sure what they would want to see in terms of proof of name changes; marriage and divorce documents? I looked for this question elsewhere, but did not find it if it is here. Thanks for your time and for the great info on this forum :)

Do you recall what class it was at the time or what it may be now if it has been reclassified?

It was so long ago, I am not sure what class it would have been in. That was the only time I ever got in trouble for anything. I'm about the most law-abiding person you could meet. It was actually a situation in which I never even meant to break any law. What happened was I had gone on vacation to Colorado alone for 3 weeks. I had planned to go into some pretty remote areas. I'm a nature nut. Anyway, a co-worker was scared for my safety at the time and persuaded me to carry a small derringer in my purse just in case I needed to defend myself out in the wilderness. In those days, remember, no cell phones to call 911. I put it in a zippered pocket in my purse I did not usually get into for stuff. By the time I got back, I had completely forgotten about the gun in there. It was pretty small and light. I went to the airport to pick up a friend who wanted to move here. You can guess the rest. I put the stupid purse on the belt to be xrayed and got arrested. The airport did not prosecute, but I had to answer the state misdemeanor charge of illegally carrying a weapon. I was given deferred adjudication and a stern talking to by the judge for being blonde I think. I was so scared stiff by the experience I never so much as touched a gun, or allowed them in my house for years. I have the court papers, but they don't specify the level of the misdemeanor. My instructor said it was not going to be a problem, but in filling out the application, I realized at the time of the charge I had a different last name by marriage. I don't know what the DPS will want for paperwork with the difference in names.

I don't need proof of name changes. Just list all of the names that you have used. When they run your search your SS# will be used to cross-check your aliases.Sheree wrote:I have a question in regards to the application. There is a box for listing Aliases. Thanks Bill. You beat me to it.
Sheree, I appologize for even asking about the classification since it wasn't pertinent to your question. I was heading in a different direction. I thought you were going to ask about eligibility, but even that is probably a moot point after so long.

No apology is needed. I appreciate the help. I'm really not embarrassed about it anymore. I did get a really healthy aversion to ever getting on the wrong side of laws from the experience. Not to mention some insight into just how easy it can happen even when you have no intention of doing so. I guess it is because of that I am pouring over CHL forums and reading books trying to learn as much as I can. I don't want to break any laws. I just want to be able to defend myself if I need to.
