The nicest, most 10-year-old daughter-compliant thing I can say about that mother is she's ignorant.

She is just looking for some television time - she can't even clearly define why she is upset with the Eddie Eagle program. Her husband is a hunter - does he also think the Eddie Eagle program encourages children to play with guns? Just someone without a cause looking for a solution to something that doesn't exist...

She's using the same argument used against sex ed. Kids are curious for a reason, they are learning about the world around them. So teach them! She, like a lot of parents, don't seem to realize their job is to teach their kids how to be adults, not keep them kids as long as posible. Poll is still 83% yes.

FTA: "At 5 years old, anytime you tell a child not to touch something, that's exactly what they do. It's in their nature to be curious and to touch and handle things," said Howe.
This is exactly why children should be taught gun safety and how to properly handle guns. If we remove the aura of mystery and satisfy their curiosity, they will no longer think guns are these forbidden, mysterious, intriguing things and won't have the desire to show them off to their friends and play with them. Guns will be as enticing and strange as a hammer.

I heard somewhere that the NRA will send all of the necessary Eaddie Eagle stuff (including costume) to anyone who asks. Does anyone know if this is true?

Depending on the size of it, it might look tight on ME!

"Not only do I think it's inappropriate to provide this information to my 5-year-old, but this is a program published by the NRA," said Nicola Howe, Samone's mother.
Well, that tears it. It's published by the
NRA. <sarcasm>That just makes it completely unsuitable to effectively present gun safety information. It should be thrown out on the face of it. I AM upset that they would give my child something that was published by Satan's minions at the NRA.</sarcasm>
