Work got posted
Well, as I came into work this morning and was to get my access badge out to swipe it, I noticed they had placed a 30.06 sign right above the swipe sensor. It had the correct language, in both English and Spanish, constrasting colors, but the letters might not be big enough. I don't carry inside the office anyway, but still, just the thought sucks.
I work for a large, national company that has gone through several layoffs/restructuring through the years, so there was one rumor that this was a precaution for "incidents" from any future layoffs. There are a couple of gun nuts/CHL holders in the office, but we are usually very low key about our hobbies and discussing it with others in the office. We not crazed-looking either. We're mostly egg-heads.
In brighter news, my part of the company has spun-off to form another company by the end of the year, and is quite possible I would be able to work from home more often or later have a new office in the future (hopefully 30.06 free). Since I wont be working for them any longer in the future (no more employee discount) and now this CHL issue, I also will probably stop using their products and services.

Re: Work got posted
I just love those "safety" and "precaution" excuses.
No I don't.
Basically I find it personally insulting and generally derogatory. It means the the 30.06 poster considers me more of a threat than a criminal, who the sign has no effect on since it cannot pertain to someone ineligible to hold a CHL.
Sorry, got to backtrack on that too.
The sign does have an effect on criminals, it tells them that no CHL holders who either value their jobs or their CHLs, will be armed in there.

Re: Work got posted
Before I started working from home full time, I could've legally carried at work but been fired based on the HR policy if I'd been found out. Well, I like the job (and need it) too much to risk that, so I went unarmed from the parking lot into the building. We went through some layoffs that led to me discretely taking my OC spray in and sitting just beside my monitor so that it was out of view but accessible. As always, either my large Spyderco or Smith & Wesson pocketknives were always clipped to my pocket.
I work from home for the same company now. . . but the HR policy doesn't apply to this office.

Yep, because if some disgruntled, laid-off, suicidal CHL holder decides to get revenge, you know he's going to read that sign, scratch his head, and mutter to himself now that his plan has been ruined.Ninjaneer wrote:I work for a large, national company that has gone through several layoffs/restructuring through the years, so there was one rumor that this was a precaution for "incidents" from any future layoffs.

[sarcasm]There are so many documented cases of people who snapped and took a gun to work to do great harm (aka going postal) that were stopped by reading a sign. [/sarcasm]
Re: Work got posted
Someone pointed out that my company has a no guns policy. Although I don't recall anyone formally telling me of such a policy. I'm well aware of a countless set of their other policies like driving, vacation, IT security, etc etc and on and on. So, apparently they have a policy. They do a poor job if at all of even telling the employees about it and do nothing for enforcement. The policy doesn't apply to visitors or contractors, only the employees. We have a known problem with criminals cruising the office building stealing personal effects and laptops. I was thinking that at least if they are going to have the policy, they should have the 30.06 signs to do everything they could to make sure that everyone in the building is defenseless.
Re: Work got posted
In my case, the parking garage is owned by a management company, so they can't apply the policy there. Let's be fair. Assuming I was a good boy right up to the end, it delays my homicidal postal rage by at least 10 minutes.KBCraig wrote:Yep, because if some disgruntled, laid-off, suicidal CHL holder decides to get revenge, you know he's going to read that sign, scratch his head, and mutter to himself now that his plan has been ruined.Ninjaneer wrote:I work for a large, national company that has gone through several layoffs/restructuring through the years, so there was one rumor that this was a precaution for "incidents" from any future layoffs.

Maybe they want him to go back to the car, put the handgun in the trunk, and grab the 12 gauge instead...KBCraig wrote:Yep, because if some disgruntled, laid-off, suicidal CHL holder decides to get revenge, you know he's going to read that sign, scratch his head, and mutter to himself now that his plan has been ruined.

Re: Work got posted
Probably would not hurt to add the company name to texas3006.com.
