51% signs

There is a little Mexican restaurant which we go to regularly. I just noticed a 51% sign (only in Spanish, btw) for the first time the other day. There is no way this place earns greater than 50% of its revenue from alcohol sales. Is it possible they just don't want to permit carrying and got a hold of a sign somehow?
I don't know how long they've had it either. It scared me for a moment as I have carried while in there. Fortunately, I wasn't packing the other day.

Best to check their license and see if it says 51%=red or 51% = blue. They can post signs all day long, but the license is what makes them legal or not.

The sign is only legal if it is backed up by the TABC decision, which is the legally defined standard. The license or permit will say "SIGN=RED" or "SIGN=BLUE" (just a minor correction of the above post).
One quick check that MAY help is to see on the TABC public inquiry web site if they have an FB certificate. This certificate is optional and means nothing if they do not have it. But if they do have it,the 51% sign cannot be legal.
If you honestly believe the sign is not properly posted, you may call the local TABC office and notify them to check the place. They will work with the licensee to get the correct signs posted.

Can you elaborate on what that signage(SIGN=RED" or "SIGN=BLUE") means?
Like Blue means no 51% sign needed or warranted and red means a 51% needs to be posted and is a legal sign or the other way around?
Thanks,

If the TABC site says SIGN=RED, then that establishment gets more than 50% of the income from the sale of alcohol for on premise consumption. CHL is not allowed in those places. They
should post a red 51% sign.
IF the TABC site says SIGN=BLUE, then they have a liquor license but don't generate more than 50% of the income from the sale of alcohol for on premise consumption. You can carry away at those places if you have CHL. They
should post a Blue sign (like you see at Wal-Mart or a convenience store that sells beer.
Now, from my understanding, the tricky part is that it is completely up to you to find out for sure if the establishment is 51% or not. A business might incorrectly post a BLUE sign (or no sign at all) when in fact they should post RED. If you are caught, then you are in violation of the law. You should contact the TABC if you think a sign is "mis-posted".

Once again, what is a 51% sign supposed to look like. How will I know when and if I ever see one? IOW, who has a picture?

Thanks for the picture. I have never seen one either and have wondered what all this blue and red stuff meant.

Thanks for the picture. I assume this is a "red" sign?

Yes, that is the red sign. The blue sign is the one with blue printing and white background that says "The unlicensed possession of a firearm is a felony" or words to that effect> I don't happen to have the exact wording of it handy right now.
