Looking for a CHL & CFP Instructor

Apologies if this has already been answered, I DID do a search and couldn't find the answer on my own.

My wife and I are ready to take the class for our TR-100s but after having read about the wait time with DPS I thought it might be a good idea to also apply for a Utah CFP (at the same time) since that will, allegedly, only take about 60 days. My problem is that I can't seem to find an instructor that does both the CHL & CFP classes in the Austin area. Any suggestions?

As far as I know there are only two instructors actively teaching the Utah CFP course; Charles Cotton and Crossfire. Crossfire is out of dallas and Charles is out of Houston (though he has taught a CFP course in the Austin area). I think the best option would be to take a weekend trip to dallas and take the classes from crossfire. http://www.crossfire-training.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

I haven't personally taken crossfire's classes but they come highly recommended by other members of the forum.

Welcome to the forum. This is a great place to get info on CHL and gun related issues. A lot of wonderful knowledgeable members here!

+1 on Crossfire's class. I took the Texas and Utah class there and would highly recommend them. She and Marty do a GREAT job! On top of that, she is one of the other Moderators here on the forum.

If you want both the Texas and Utah licenses, then I too suggest you and your wife contact Crossfire and her husband. You'll enjoy the classes.

Thanks everyone for your advice! My wife and I ended up getting our CHL class done yesterday (Sunday) at Law Enforcement Educators Training Academy in Valley Mills. My father-in-law swears by these people and I must say they did a great job! The CHL class if very informative and they made it fun. I highly recommend taking this course for everyone (even if you don't want your CHL) as there is a great deal of knowledge to be gained that can be applied to your daily life.
Regarding the Utah CFP, I've found someone in Georgetown that can administer the class later this week. I would've loved to visit Crossfire and probably will someday but our schedules right now don't allow for a trip up there.

Today will be spent making photo copies, getting a cashiers check (for my wife's app) and visiting FedEx so that I can hurry up and wait for DPS to do their thing.

DPS will have about a three day lead over Utah. Wonder who will have my plastic in the mail first?

Let us know how that Georgetown CFP class goes. People are always asking for us to be somewhere that we aren't for Utah classes. It would be good to know someone we could recommend in the Austin area.

Then we just need someone out in west Texas and we will have this covered!

Took my CFP class on Wednesday and mailed out the paperwork today. Utah should have everything tomorrow because I expedited it.

The class was pretty bare bones (hardcopy outline, no powerpoint) compared to the CHL class that I attended on Sunday. It was administered at the gentleman's residence and I was the only one in attendance. He was very professional and I felt completely at ease. Having just taken the Texas CHL class a couple days before, the material we covered seemed like a four hour refresher course. All in all, it went well and I feel comfortable recommending this instructor's services to anyone.

If you're planning on obtaining a Utah CFP for Texas carry I would recommend taking a course that offers both the CFP and CHL at the same time (my instructor offered both) as some of the laws are a bit different between the two states.

I plan on keeping a hardcopy of the Texas/Utah reciprocity agreement close at hand just in case I might need to show it to a LEO.

From my experience the Utah CFP takes almost exactly 60 days from when they received it to when you see it.
