Female robber shot

This past saturday night @ around 2am at N Houston somewhere around sheperd/I45, the brother of one of my co-workers went to help a girl friend changing a flat. A female, with a bandanna covering her face, tried to robber him under gun point. She ordered him and his girlfriend to the ground. While the robber was distracted a little to the purse in the car, he pulled his 380 and fired 6 shots. The robber fired a few shots at him, hitting him once on his buttock. The robber got away injured. They later found her blood on the ground going to her run-away car.

Man, this is getting worse. Now, a female armed robber! Everybody be extra careful if you need to go out at late night.

Got six shots off from a .380 at a female robber, and she was still able to fire back and get away?!? That is enough to put some serious doubt in my decision to purchase an LCP. :grumble I hope your friend has a quick recovery.

First, my friend was OK. He was said to be kind of upset about the knocking power of 380. So he went to the gun show on Sunday. ;-)

BTW, the robber had a 9mm.

I believe that this incident proves that tiny 380 works. Because it was so small, the robber did not notice that in the pocket until hit. Surprise !!! Otherwise, what do you think the outcome would be if it was indeed a gang initiation act as was suspected ? Imaging it were you trying to put the wheel on with your back to the robber, gun printing. What do you do then ?

I carry IWB with a shirt covering my 45 with about a 30 degree forward cant and it really doesn't print,#1 is shot placement you can shoot 20 rounds and if you can't hit what you're aiming at or just wing them a 45 won't do you much better,I'm getting a new Keltec I went with the P11 it's a 9mm the PF9 is also 9mm,but I practice every week with several different pistols, even if you can't afford to shoot a lot having a pistol you can dry fire and practicing technique and instilling muscle memory will make a huge difference, also situational awareness try to pay attention to what's going on around you,If you get to absorbed by the task at hand and aren't watching you're six or having the other person watching you can get jumped pretty quick, stay alert stay armed.BTW I hope he wasn't hurt too bad and they catch the robber

"Got six shots off" is not the same as "hit the perp six times", let alone "hit the perp six times in one or more critical areas". It could mean, "missed five times and grazed her with one."

You mean he didn't do the Martin Rigs, roll around on the ground shooting move from Lethal Weapon?

Man, that's my favorite move. I practice it every chance I get.

Your friend is lucky. He needs to improve his shooting. And get a shotgun for that type of situation in the future. Great (and Texas legal) open carry weapon. Good thing he went to assist that girl. In Houston, I'd go here to expand my horizons for the future: http://www.hoffners.com/info.htm

I think most of us have seen the pics and stories of people who have shot themselves accidentally with .45ACPs and walked to the phone to call the ambulance. One that stands out in my mind had two through-and-through wounds to the leg from a single, quality SD JHP and posted pics of the bloody footprints where he walked out of the basement unassisted. I still subscribe to the theory that we never hear about these with 9mm or .40S&W because those folks just put a bandaid on it and keep quiet.

For every caliber, there's somebody out there who has survived a hit with it. For every military caliber short of howitzer rounds, there's somebody who survived a hit at least long enough to fatally wound the shooter. OTOH, there are people like Archduke Ferdinand who are firmly convinced of the lethality of mouseguns.

Don't forget the post where the guy shot himself in the hand with his XD40.

The size of the round matters in that it COULD cause more damage. When I was going through the academy, an officer for my agency at the time was involved in a shooting and died. He shot and hit the BG with 5 rounds of .44 mag, the officer was hit with 1 .22lr round that went though his bullet proof vest at a seam under his arm. He was dead before he hit the ground. The BG though royally jacked up, lived.

The following pretty much proves your point....
from an article Gabe Suarez wrote: http://goldismoney.info/forums/showthread.php?t=240753
All calibers can fail, and have failed. When you look at the issues
scientifically a 9mm or a .38 Special is approximately .357. A 40 S&W is
10mm. And a 45 ACP is 11mm. So could it be that we have basically one or
two little millimeters separating “T-Rex Stopper from “Merely
Adequate, or “Anemically Inadequate? Yes that is exactly right.

Let me put it in a different perspective. A student of mine who works
for a narcotics Unit in the south recently reported in. He told me that
he and his guys had gotten in a gunfight with a violent drug dealer. Our
student shot the bad guy once with a shotgun loaded with Federal
Tactical Slugs. (Slugs incidentally are about .72 caliber and are
suggested as anti-bear insurance in Alaska ). The shotgun slug entered
the right side of the bad guy’s chest from about the 2:00 and exited
through the back at about the 8:00 .

Nice shot. However, the bad guy not only kept fighting, but stole a car
and evaded the pursuing police officers into a wooded area. A week
later, the bad guy’s attorney arranged for him to turn himself in. He
was alive and well, albeit injured. Does anyone want to tell me how
deadly their pistol round is now?

So select the size of your pistol first and foremost. Base it on what
you need to carry it 24-7-365. That means all the time. Select a caliber
that is easily obtained, and shootable for you. And finally, train to
hit and keep hitting until the threat has gone away (one way or the
other). A hit with a 9mm is far better than a marginal hit or a miss
with a caliber you cannot control.
Most people are expecting to be able to see the results of a hit -- it's night, you're both moving, you're hyped, you only practice in the 'lane' with perfect stance/form, you never shoot a practical match, someone is SHOOTING AT YOU, you never even SEE your sights (all of the above but especially it's night and someone is shooting at you) much less a "sight picture"....

That entire Gabe Suarez article is worth reading. I like .45s but he makes a strong point for a gun with a LOT OF ROUNDS IN IT no matter the caliber.

Wonder if she was ever caught?

Seems if you put 6 rounds of any caliber into somebody they wont go far, and will probly find a hospital or doctor ASAP.
This might support the theory she was just grazed with a shot.

I checked Google News and didn't find it with two or three obvious searches.

Wonder if it made the paper, or TV/Radio?
