The family will probably be going there this summer some time. I'm afraid I already know what the answer will be, but has anyone been to Fiesta Texas recently and seen whether or not they are posted 30.06? The last time I was there was pre-CHL (for me anyway).

I know for a fact that Six flags over texas is 30.06, and i also know there are metal detectors at fiesta, so 30.06 or not, you won't be able to carry.

It's classified as an amusement park, which by law you would not be able to carry there.

Only if posted with a valid 30.06 notice.

Yep - still has to be posted. Gotta read the whole thing to get the most recent additions which require posting in order to be valid. The number of places off limits without posting is very limited.

I know it has to be posted, but to me it would be like carrying in the unsecured portion of an airport. By law it's allowed, but if you just happen to pass by a bomb sniffing dog that locks on to you you're going to have a lot of explaining to do. It's just one of those situations where you have to determine if taking the ride is worth it.
Of course, I live in Harris county with a liberal DA. ymmv

i was there 2 years ago, there were legal 30.06 signs at each toll booth... effectively covering the parking lot as well as the park. there are also metal detectors. no go for carry.

I've done that on several occasions too, with absolutely no worries.
As you say, it's legal. I don't worry about "taking the ride" or "having a lot of explaining to do" when I'm not breaking any laws.

I don't see anything wrong with carrying in the unsecured portion of an airport. The law is very specific about where in an airport you cannot carry, and I'm not going to lie down and surrender my rights for fear that an uninformed LEO/security guard might not know the law. If some yahoo thinks he's going to arrest me for carrying where I have the legal right to, I'm going to immediately request that his supervisor be present and have some civilly spoken words with him regarding the education of his subordinates.
As has been noted, the law was modified so we
could legally carry in an amusement park unless given notice per PC 30.06. I'm not going to let the effort our lawmakers and those who worked so hard to change this aspect of the law go to waste because I am afraid that someone who is ignorant of the law
may give me a hard time.
As the saying goes, "ignorance of the law is no excuse", and it works in both directions.

I carry into the Houston Airports at least once a month and its no problem. I've hardly ever seen a dog. I don't think they will notice a cleaned gun with factory ammo anyway.

I agree the dogs are not going to 'lock on' to a handgun on you. If that was the case, they would hit every plain clothes officer, FBI agent, pilot that was carrying under the FFDO program and Federal Air Marshall that walked through the airport.

And a some examples of this ability to carry in typical non carry environments would be? And where would this information be located so I could improve my knowledge about these situations? Thanks.

It is all described in your CHL handbook. It can be found here.
http://pages.sbcglobal.net/liberty.free ... /ls-16.doc
but it really should have been covered in your CHL class.
The finer details are consantly being hashed out on this forum.
Maybe would could put an article in a sticky. The problem is that there are some questionable areas.
For instance I believe it it is perfectly legal to carry into the Galveston Police department. Even though it is 30.06 posted. I wouldn't advise anyone to do it and would suggest that no one carry in there unless they fully understood the consequences. But in a nutshell
You can legally carry with a CHL unless:
- Its is 30.06 Posted. (Signage, written or oral notification) there are places that a 30.06 sign is not valid though.
It is Fedrally owned or controlled
Inside secured part of a jail or prison.
Into Court (don't remember if it has to be posted though, most are)
secured area of an airport.
Inside of a school building..
a professional sporting event
An organized school activity (Football game pep rally etc.)
Near the Huntsville prison on a day they are going to execute someone.
At a Bar. where 50% of the income is consumed alcoholic beverage.
I'm sure I missed something.. But I'm not a lawyer, or even a CHL instructor.
For the most part you can carry at Church, in an airport, at a mall ,into a restaurant, at anyplace that has a gunbuster sign, into the school parking lot, or even the local carnival.

Add:
Pari-mutuel betting - ie Horse or Dog tracks where betting/wagering takes place.

Thanks I knew I probably missed something, but I think we pretty much summed it up.
