Anyone heard of them?

#1

Post by lefty lar »

I received an e-mail today from "The Staff" <s.texas-chl-supply@att.net> Asking if I wanted to order the New CHL Power Point CD & also if I wanted to get a pre-paid legal plan. It listed their site as http://www.concealedcarrylegal.com. Just curious if they are legit & anygood. Thanks in advance.

This question has been asked before, but I haven't seen any positive responses. I have tried to get a copy of their contract, but they have never answered my email. None of the testimonials that I have read are from people who actually have had to use the service. If you search the forum you may find a couple of old threads.

 I wonder how they got your info? I was told that DPS doesnt release individual holders information, only giving demographics. Does DPS sell a mailing list?

They don't sell the list. It's illegal for them to do so. The only reason I know that is because I help run http://www.texasonline.com , the state's egovernment site. I've read all the privacy acts and all the occupational licensing codes, and CHL administrative codes, and all the other related stuff some many time I could almost quote them.

The only thing the state is allowed to sell is driver's records and related stuff (insurance companies, etc.)

Thanks again for the replies. I'm on a couple of gun forums like, S&W, Glocktalk, etc. Maybe they got my e-mail address from them somehow. Anyway, I will take the advice given here and just pass on their offer. Lefty Lar :txflag:

I know the director personally, he and his "staff" have successfully defended a member of this forum in the case of a negligent discharge of his firearm...The member of this forum had not been a customer of the "pre-paid" before this incident, therefore it did cost him a few shiny nickles...All charges were dismissed by a local civil judge here in Harris County, and all property (guns, ammo, holsters etc etc) was returned...

If the marketing, or advertizing of this service have made some a bit nervous, I can understand that...But if you ever wondered if it was better to have someone who is absolutely dedicated to the defense of anyone who defends themselves in the use of force or deadly force...And you don't have Charles on speed-dial , then Tom Nixon and his services to me are at the top of my list...

I will never tell someone what to do in this case, I will only recommend you study the service, give them a call and ask questions...And then make your own personal decision...

Anyone heard

Post by tpnix »

Hello there,

My name is Tom Nixon. I am one of the directors of Concealed Carry Legal Services. I have been a lawyer in Texas for 3 1/2 years. My partner, Don Philips and I are the directors of CCLS. CCLS is a company that was set up when I left the Houston Police Department in 2006. I was a police officer for HPD for ten years. CCLS was modelled after the Houston Police Officer's Union legal staff.

When a police officer is involved in a shooting or other legal problem, they call their Union, which sends a lawyer to represent them. They do this for both Civil and Criminal investigations. We do the same thing, except we do it for civilians who have Concealed Handgun Licenses. We treat you like police officers are treated by their Union. We are there to fight for you. We do it for 10.00 dollars per month, paid in yearly installments, $120.00 per year. Police officers pay their Union $45.00 per month for this protection. I think its a pretty good deal.

AND YES..............We have defended people already. In fact, I am sure you remember the guy who set off a round at the gun show at the George R Brown Convention Center a little over a year ago. WE DEFENDED HIM! And guess what, we got ALL OF HIS CHARGES WERE DISMISSED!!!!!!!!!! In fact, an HPD Sergeant, that I knew from the Department when I worked there, filed an affidavit to have his CHL revoked. GUESS WHAT?????!!!!! I got the affidavit removed and our client got his CHL back.

We are currently defending other people in other counties. We currently have a case in Bell County that we are defending. We are here, we work, in fact we work a lot. I spend most of my time defending people like you on this site when you get a divorce and your wife files a Restraining Order or a Protective Order against you. That's when you CHL gets automatically suspended by operation of law. We here at CCLS step up and defend you and get your CHL back.

WE ARE THE ONLY COMPANY IN TEXAS THAT IS DOING WHAT WE ARE DOING!!!!!! We have people claiming to be our competition, they are not. We are different in the services we provide and the way we provide them.

Call me at 713 520 7667 if you want to know.

Thank you,
Tom Nixon
Director - CCLS

Their website is http://www.concealedcarrylegal.com/

They really need to make their font a bit larger, and update the Texas handgun pdf in their docs

Does this cover outside the state of Texas if its a reciprocal state?

CCLS well into their second year of operation and doing well. Do not fault a company for contacting you for business. Just do some research on the companies competing for the same business and make your decision. There are but a few out there that even offer such a pecialized service.

What I have found is that other legal service companies that specialize in concealed defense have no attorneys and only offer representation costs to grand jury and then you are finished with your coverage. That amounts to pretty much ZERO coverage. Other pre-paid companies offer a reduced fee arrangement that give you a token reduction on the fees required by the attorney. The discount is somewhere around 15-25% and that is all you get. You are still faced with a potentially enormous legal bill.

If any of you are carrying a weapon then it must also be a part of your thought process that it IS a possibility that you WILL be faced with a legal situaiton regarding the carrying or use of your concealed weapon.
