Does anyone carry inside Katy Mills?

#1

Post by McKnife »

I know the controversy over the Katy Mills Mall 30.06 signs, so I am wondering since all entrances aren't posted, do you guys/gals still carry?

I don't shop there often at all, but I do like the AMC theater since it's a lot cheaper than Cinemark!

What do y'all say?

Carry or Not Carry? (*** THIS IS YOUR PREFERENCE, NOT A RECOMMENDATION)

My only reason to go to Katy Mills is the Bass Pro Shop, which is not posted.

I carry when I shop there.

The law does not require that every entrance be posted, it requires that you be given effective notice. If you see a 30.06 sign, stop and look around until you find an entrance that was not posted and enter there you violated 30.06.

Maybe I should edit my question....

Does anyone here carry in Katy Mills Mall (AMC, Food Court, etc.) after entering through Bass Pro? or Bed Bath and Beyond? - those who enter through these locations have not been given effective notice.

If you know the mall has a 30.06 sign posted, you've been given effective notice.

the only thing entering through another entrance grants you is probable deniability...

This post reminds me of my recent renewal class. A gentleman mentioned the Grapevine Mills mall. The instructor said that it had recently changed hands. Another classmate said that the signs were still up. The gentleman then said something to the effect that, "if I carry concealed and no one knows but me..."
He was reminded that if you went through all the trouble and money to obtain your CHL, why would you put it in jeopardy over a potential Class B misdemeanor by carrying where your not supposed to? A Class B means at least 5 years of no CHL and no carry.
If it comes down to brass tacks and you get a hardnose prosecutor it really doesn't matter which door you came through if you knew the place was posted 30.06.

If they have see the signs at other entrances then they HAVE been given effective notice. Proving it might be difficult for a court, but it could be done.

I went to Katy Mills once, entered through Bass Pros, and didn't see any signs, so I carried. However, now that I know it is 30.06 posted, I won't carry there anymore, because I would rather not be arrested for carrying in a restricted area. Not only would you have to prove that the signs are inadequately posted, you would also have to prove that you had no idea that they were posted in the first place. Not a good situation to be in if you were inside a courtroom, IMO.

I never have any reason to set foot anywhere at Katy Mills except Bass Pro Shops.

And Bass Pro Shops, as a rule, are not posted.

So what is the opinion on whether the postings in the mall apply to Bass Pro Shops?

I frequent the Katy Mills mall quite often as I live in Katy and this where my family members insist on shopping and seeing movies. I do recall ever going to that mall and not being armed. I have also never entered any place but through Bass Pro Shop or Julian' s when it was still there. It is my understanding, although I have nevr personally seen them, that the 30.06 signs that are posted may not be legal because of the way they are posted (way to the side and only on one side). I have been told that if you enter on the far side of an entrance, you could be as far away as 15+ yards from the sign and that you would have to have outstanding peripheral vision, and hope that a crowd of people was not entering or leaving at the same time thus blocking any possible viewing of the sign. Katy officers patrol the mall. I know a few and it is MHO that if discovered (and licensed), and you weren't being a pain or acting stupid, they would probably just ask you to leave rather than create a disturbance. I think this might depend a bit or whether or not you told them you always enter through Bass Pro, etc. and have never saw a sign, and your appearance. (conservatively dressed, middle age, obviously family guy out with the wife vs. 21-year old dressed semi gang banger with an attitude, etc.) If you had a CHL, I think the most they would do is escort you to the nearest exit or your vehicle. Rumor has it that the same folks who own the Galleria bought Katy Mills, and if memory serves me right they don't have signs posted there.

I shopped there once before my CHL days. I wasn't impressed with the place.

I've chosen to spend my money elsewhere. If they change their policy, I may change mine.

I'll never carry there because I won't go there. I spent plenty of time there during the construction of the mall. That was enough. My wife and I did go about a year ago, pre CHL and we weren't impressed. We continue to spend our money else where.
