Sandwiched , road rager in front

Just a scenario which can happen in this big and hot Houston. Let say u are driving and for some reason u go slow just below speed limit. Then suddenly u hear a honking and looking at the back mirror you see a rundown car with driver getting irate. He rams the pedal and overtakes in a screeching manner to make known he is mad. Overtakes u and while you ignore at all cost he speeds up ahead . You are relieved as he makes distance then the car stops at a redlight. You stopped at his back waiting for the green. When green lights up he intentionally doesnt move. He makes a move then stops. You followed and almost hits his bumper. He does it again. The tense moment begins. You knew he is to something. You rack up for the inevitable as the tense moment passes, still car in front will not move , the car behind u makes angry horns. Seconds seems like minutes, what would be your mental frame of mind? You see the front passengers are several goon looking guys.

First of all.....I would not need to "Rack Up". I would already be ready if needed.

Secondly, you need to realize that EVERY FOOL in Texas has a loaded pistol in their car now! And, no training on how and when to use it!

Get out of the car, lock it up and walk away. Call the Police with location and license plate numbers if possible. Let the others sort it out. You have just diffused your part of the situation and your car is not worth your life or someone else's.

All that being said. If you are truly trapped and someone is on either side of you by car or on foot and have weapons. I would not hesitate to end their bad day.

Every fool that wanted to always has.

The way to avoid this kind of scenario is to maintain enough distance to pull around or make a U-turn.

Situational awareness! Never get too close to the car in front of you in case you need to make an escape or evasive move. Especially if you already are aware that the other person is agitated. Some times you can't help but get blocked in with Houston traffic but staying further back increases your chance of getting out of the situation. Remember, distance is your friend. IMO.

+1 seamusTX. Always leave yourself an escape route.

+1 on already being racked and leaving an escape route. I like to leave enough room to make a hard-cut in either direction. I actually started doing this after I was rear-ended once. But after living through a rash of car-jackings in New Jersey, it seemed like a good defensive/preventitive idea.

The missed obvious possibilities,
1. Its a set up, you need to focus on the car behind you.
2. The two are engaging each other; you just need to get out of the way.

Personally, I'd lay down in the front seat or floor, call 911 and hope they shoot it out with each other.

That seems like a vulnerable position where you can't see what's going on.

From what I have heard, the Californian style of street gangs are now being mimicked by gangs here in Houston and Texas. God help us/

Scenarios like these are in quiet inner city streets. Trapping is another way to harrass folks and make them vulnerable to crime. Esp women and babies in their vans coming from or back from daycare centers.

Why would you be driving below the speed limit? Far too many roads are lacking speed minimum signs, IMHO. Driving too slow is often just as dangerous as driving too fast.

Why would it have to be a "run-down" car? I drive a run-down car as I pay for grad school and cannot afford something else yet. I must be a road-raging loon.

The hypothetical scenario is what ? Hypothetical. If u take it as a bash or directed at you, then its your problem. Everyday in HOuston this can and will happen to anyone. Ive been harassed once in a nice neighborhood with many stop signs in N Houston like I described but luckily they didnt end up long to get to thiis point . They were only teens who, God knows what went thru their minds. But what if they were street GBs who are hot heads in a slightest err. They blow up easy esp they see an easy prey. Thats the reason I brought this scenario. I make sure i have a bigger tool in hand but never a guarantee as criminals are far savvy.

As for the speed limit, a 5 mile below the stated sign is what I m talking.
Its not slow as too slow.
