Quick renewal question

It says you can start the renewal process 6 months before expiration. Do they go by the exact expiration date or calendar month? For example, let's say mine expires on Jan 15th, can I start the process on 16 July or 1 Aug? I am hoping it is the latter because it is not giving me the option going by the date.

You should receive a reminder at the -6 month mark. You can renew as soon as you receive the reminder.

Yes, I know that. I am just under a bit of a time constraint because I will be out of the area for some time later in the year and wanted to get the ball rolling as soon as possible.

Having renewed a few times now, I recall receiving the renewal notice about 1-2 weeks after becoming eligible. I would wager that the notices are generated automatically on or about the first working day after your license is eligible for renewal, then however long it takes to post and deliver them.
Totally guessing here, but, if your eligibility date falls on a Saturday, I'd guess that the online process would be open to you by mid week the following week.
Again... just a guess.
FWIW.... I've had renewals take >45 days and others take only 2-3 weeks....
I keep an AZ license just in case of paperwork or USPS mix-up.

My question was more about what day they use for the 6 months. Going by the exact day (i.e. the 15th), I should have been able to start the process several days ago, but it still does not give me that option, only to apply for instructor. So I was wondering if they go by calendar month instead, and it would be Aug 1st before I could start it. Nothing I can do I guess except wait and keep trying each day until it lets me.

It's not 6 months - it's acually 180 days from the exact expiration date - almost 6 months, but just a few days short.
Given your example of Jan 15, you should be able to renew starting today.
