Was at both restaurants this last week and saw signage stating something to the fact of: Unlicensed firearms are not allowed on the premises and would result in a felony if found to be on your person.

Since I have a CHL this sign does not apply to me. Correct statement?

That is correct.

Yes. Every place that sells alcoholic beverages has either that sign or a 51% sign.

When I see those signs, I just smile as I walk in the door and say to myself, "Thank you for welcoming me and my concealed handgun into your establishment."

It says 'Unlicensed'. If you have your CHL you have a license.

Just wondering, these questions keep popping up. Is this required teaching in CHL class?

I don't know how detailed the state curriculum is, but ElGato covered it. He even had the signs.

My instructor touched on the differences as well.

Ditto here. They explained the sign referenced is issued by the TABC for all establishments that have a license to sell alcohol. You will see a lot of these posted at the 'Stop & Robs' and other Quickie Marts.

Unless the business derives 51% or greater profit from alcohol sales, then you are exempt (of course they have the 51% or a 30.06 sign posted, you are persona non grata with your firearm.)

Be cautious though, even if they don't have a sign posted, any establishment that has a very high alcohol sales rate could qualify and you would be in violation.

Allow me to tidy up that last statement just a bit...
any establishment that has a very high alcohol sales rate
(i.e. 51 percent or more of its income from the sale or
service of alcoholic beverages for on premises consumption)
could qualify and you would be in violation.
[PC §46.035 (b) (1)]

I expect a lot of stop'n'robs have a very high alcohol sales rate! Just not for drinking on premises.

Thanks for the clarification ELB. You are right on that, as a stand alone liquor store is allowed carry unless 30.06 posted. I think most Quickie Marts do not derive their main profits from alcohol, but from fuel, cigarettes, lottery tickets and Slurpee's!

On a side note, I don't know if there are any other Cheddar's restaurants in town than the one I've been to, near where I work down here in League City area, but my my, I am TOTALLY happy with their portion sizes there.

Seems like most Chili's/TGIF places you go, you pay 15 dollars for ribs and they look like they came off an infant pig, and you're left hungry and with less money.

Cheddars, get half a rack of ribs and a 12oz. steak on a plate with grilled veggies, plus two sides, for 13.99. That place is kicking in my book :)
