Please, as someone who works here and has for the last 20 years, I would like you to show me documented incidents.

And the 2004 FOP "report" is laughable. There is more than a full complement of rangers and USBP here.

But by all means, come and see for yourself how dangerous it is here.

...I have no interest in going there...but I'm sure if you researched it some, you'd find the incidents that they made these reports with...you KNOW you can trust your government...why would they publish such things, knowing it'd keep some folks away...and they'd have less work to do and expense...it's moot for me but those who're considering going somewhere need to have the truth...and then they can make an informed decision...

The problem with your theory is there were no incidents in BBNP that have anything to do with the material you posted.

I am looking forward to going back, very nice,,i would feel safer than most places. I spent a week about two years ago,,then went to the state park for a week, with 4 days on a campground on the river,,good times.

My big baby golden retreiver did get a warning for being in the back country, even though he stayed in the truck,,it is clearly stated,my fault,,but he got the warning.not me ! all people very nice

any idea on the informal crossing reopening date ? (Boquillos)

Boquillas, sometime in April, maybe
It also will not be "informal". It will be a Class B Port of Entry. Passports required for entry or re-entry

...probably not...all those law enforcement warnings and ratings are probably just a trick to get more donuts...and this report is probably totally unsubstantiated, too...http://www.bestplaces.net/crime/zip-cod ... park/79834" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; please...I'm glad your experiences have been wonderful...but if there was truly little crime there...the reports wouldn't include Big Bend...and it wouldn't be rated so high on the dangerous list by professional LEOs...people need something between Chicken Little and Pollyanna to make decisions where to take their families...that's part of why they do these reports and put these warnings on the Park website...there's reason to beware...

Hmm, BBNP a 3/4 on crime...in the last 10 years, there have been 0 (zero) murders in BBNP. 0 (zero) shootings... There have been some car clouts and petty theft though.

...personally, I'll go with the Law Enforcement community who works there rather than the folks who're trying to encourage me to move there or start my business there... "best places" as an example...

...as far as "someone who lives there"...I can pick four of my neighbors within two blocks...three of them won't have any idea of how many police calls have been made here, or the drive-by shooting at the drug house, or the man who shot up his house and his family had to run for their lives...often one's perception of what's really going on nearby is clouded by what time they go to bed or how loudly the TV is turned up...the folks who get off at five oclock couldn't make it on the same street at 10 that night...

...no sense in our continuing to argue...we're not going to come to agreement...have a nice evening...OP's headed to East Texas...where mosquitoes are king!!!

I have a feeling that a trip into Big Bend state park is safer than parking and going to the juicy baseball park in downtown Houston. I don't have the Stats, But at least in Big bend we are allowed to arm ourselves.

This was sort of why I asked about open carry.

But I will miss this,

BTW I decided to go to East Texas and stay at a state park primarily because of the dog. Since I can conceal carry I have no problem with my safety at BBNP. Secondly it was the drive from Houston, I can get there a lot quicker.
I'm going to take my 4" telescope, and I already know I will be disappointed in the sky, probably because of clouds. Thanks for all the info.

Ugh. I reviewed the text of the law again and I can't find any wording that gives the Chief Ranger/ Superintendent that authority to override the law. No offense, but stuff like this make me sick.

3. Big Bend National Park (Texas): Imagine a place on the border where law enforcement is ordered by management to allow illegal aliens into the country, and to avoid the border area entirely if crime is suspected. Such is the story at Big Bend, where the park superintendent has chosen to confront crime by surrendering to it. The park has blatantly violated NPS orders to hire law enforcement staff before hiring other personnel, leaving the few remaining rangers understaffed, unsupported, and overwhelmed. Big Bend is a classic example of a preventable ranger death waiting to happen in the park with the largest boundary with Mexico.

Just to ahead an do whatever you want to.

Don't let fear and common sense get in your way.
If the 2nd admendment only applies to muskets and muzzle-loaders, then the 1st admentment must apply only to the spoken or printed word. Printing must be done on hand presses, news stories must be written in longhand, no keyboards or electric processes may be used.
