There's a good example of why you find a good FFL, and blow off the retail stores. They didn't do anything wrong, they were just inexperienced with a not-so-typical sale and fumbled through it. Dang straight I'd do the same thing if I had no idea what I was doing. The risk of doing it wrong isn't worth the sale.
When you find a good local FFL, they tend to go through the process a whole lot more thus are more familiar with it, and know how to navigate non-standard transfers they may not be familiar with. Academy has their corporate goofs to go through first. And with a local FFL, good pricing should be easy. It may not be the cheapest every time, but the support, service and personal touch is well worth it.
But for a Glock????
