Some, more than a few, of the multitudinous posts/questions on this forum about various everyday "what-if" situations are downright silly - to say the LEAST.

I used to do this, but I always seemed to hit the hole perfectly. Never even a nick in the CD edge around the hole. And the CD is too big for me to have missed IT completely, so I figure I must have hit the hole each time, right?KD5NRH wrote:Stick it out at 100 yards and practice shooting through the hole. Tell you what. I'll go out there sometime and take aphoto, and we will play wheres waldo.bdickens wrote:Most adults I've seen are taller than most cars.
I don't think one has to have ridden around with police officers to be capable of discerning between a bad guy and a good guy. I also fail to see how riding around with police officers makes one an expert on such matters and I hardly consider you such an expert any more than the other experts you refer to. Regardless, one who spends their life scared of shadows is one who is destined to live in the shadows. Just my humble opinion. I will not be a prisoner to irrational fear.PeteCamp wrote:Well for all of the experts out there, and I certainly wouldn't presume to address anyone here, I didn't get my situational awareness from reading a book or watching a DVD. I got it from 8 years of wearing a badge and working the streets with other police officers and 7 years of working in EMS. Someone posted a picture of two fellas in white shirts and ties seemingly in broad daylight. Interesting. You must have been there with Mark at 9 pm in the dark in that parking lot. Congratulations on the fine picture.
I just know we'll never read about anyone on this board who failed to understand situational awareness and paid for it with their life. I pray you never see some nice, clean cut looking person pull a gun out and try to shoot you to death. Or some nice, clean cut looking homeowner who had just carved up his wife with an 8 inch butcher knife in front of his children, take that knife and start walking toward you. I view everyone with a careful eye to the absolute worst outcome until I know beyond shadow of a doubt that they are harmless. Most people are just that. Nobody spoke of pulling a gun on these guys. It was only mentioned that their actions were not normal or usual and should raise some warning flag in your mind. I'm not paranoid because that flag goes up - I'm alive, and I intend to stay that way. What you do is up to you.
How many times have I as a gun owner been told that I carry because I have an irrational fear?03Lightningrocks wrote:PeteCamp wrote: I will not be a prisoner to irrational fear.
I don't know. I don't tell anyone I carry a gun. Carrying a gun in case it is needed is easily rational. Considering pulling that gun on every human being that approaches me would be irrational.marksiwel wrote:How many times have I as a gun owner been told that I carry because I have an irrational fear?03Lightningrocks wrote:PeteCamp wrote: I will not be a prisoner to irrational fear.
Did I say I pulled it on every human being that approached me? No. I didnt pull it, but I was prepared to incase I NEEDED to (sounds like a Rational thing when you choose to carry a gun). It was an odd situation the nearest Morman church is 3 miles away and not even on that Road. Monday morning Quarter backs03Lightningrocks wrote:I don't know. I don't tell anyone I carry a gun. You're assuming someone besides you advocated that particular course of action.Considering pulling that gun on every human being that approaches me would be irrational.
No...I said considering and you did think about pulling your gun. If you consider two Mormons a threat, I am not sure who would qualify as a non-threat. Thus I said... if one considers pulling a gun on every human being that approaches them, this would be irrational. Those of us that live in major cities would be running around with our guns pulled all the time if we got jumpy every time a fellow human approached us. Maybe I just don't get scared fast enough... I don't know.marksiwel wrote:Did I say I pulled it on every human being that approached me? Well Pete, you insinuated that you were an expert and that the rest of the opinions posted here were of folks that just presumed themselves to be experts. You further insinuated that the opinions were derived from reading internet or watching DVD's. I was simply responding in kind. My apologies if I misunderstood.PeteCamp wrote:You're assuming someone besides you advocated that particular course of action.Considering pulling that gun on every human being that approaches me would be irrational.
Besides, who cares what you think of me as an expert or anything else? Reading comprehension might help you understand that I wasn't claiming to be an expert. This much I am an expert on: Expertise in a field doesn't come from posting on the internet. Maybe you should spend some time doing ride-alongs. Might open your eyes. And you could run your opinions by the officers. Either way, I could care less.
