we CAN carry under CHL, just not in the buildings.

We cannot carry where defined as premises. I believe in one sentence, he stated where he had authority, and the other sentence stated that he did not believe we could carry at an educational institutions, which is correct, but not entirely factual, as according to law. But all this I thought was irrelevant, because the OP to my understanding was talking about getting pulled over.

It was just simple facts but yes, we can pull you over for any traffic infraction just like any other LE agency.
We have tickets for traffic infractions that only apply to students and staff. If I was to write a citizen a ticket he could throw it away cause it hold no force of law. We officers can write minciple court tickets if we have too.

ok, but let's say I am driving on the St Mary's Campus down in San Antonio....I'm pretty sure they have private police, they also have a major road through their campus and I've heard they like to give tickets to folks. Now, I have a CHL, I'm perfectly legal to carry on that road or on any road through that campus. {now in reality, I've been on that road once and I don't give anyone any reason to pull me over}

Yes and you could also walk anywhere on the property armed as well, just don't step inside a building. Hopefully this will all change next legislative session.

Please do. A campus cop should know this.
There is some confusion around this post. He seems to know what is, and what is not legal. Look at his latest comments.

I'll find out for sure. We went through penal code in a week at the academy. This is why I keep a copy in my patrol bag to reference. I'm sure our lawyers will have to look it up as well before giving a definitive answer.

Not trying to pick on you or be ugly. I am very surprised you don't know this for sure since you are specifically a campus cop and due to your participation and interest here. I don't expect you to know all of the laws but I would think this is one you would be solid on.

I'm 98% sure you can have it anywhere but the premises. I have been wrong before in my interpretation of law so I will go to those with the big desks and fancy law degrees on the wall to tell me for sure. I like to cover my rear.

Am I supposed to reply? We both know you're within the law of course.

Of course, I understand. When in any level of doubt, send up the chain and you'll be free of the liability of making the wrong call. This instance may be over the top thorough, but it's better to be safe than sorry .

I am surprised no one has mentioned it but while the law says you are to provide your CHL when asked to identify there is no penalty for not doing so. In essence it is a law with no teeth.

We all know that. It's we are talking about what is legally required. Not what we can get away with.
