Some of them make well into 7 figures, unlike their boss. :grumble Although even during the day a thug will stick a pistol into a manhole (area under the pavement where the cabling is) and demand your wallet be thrown up. You are kinda stuck since their is no where to go and they cant miss with you pinned down. I have a fake wallet with about 10 bucks in it I carry.

I used to stereotype the inner city or south side of town as unsafe and the burbs as safe, but this is untrue. You don't have to believe me, just read the crime statistics for yourself.

With the exception of gated communities, the burbs are just as dangerous, if not more dangerous than the inner city. Houses are safer than apartments and gated communities of HOUSES (not apartments) are the safest of all.

I invite you to go to http://www.ci.dallas.tx.us/dpd/cgi-bin/ra_map_nc.pl . Read the crime statistics for yourself. "Nice" middle class neighborhoods are just as dangerous as "the hood" or "el barrio".

Here's some data from the "burbs";
For example, in the small cluster of houses on the NE corner of Midway and Frankford (near 190 and Tollway) in Dallas, there were 4 rapes and 0 murders in 2007.
Across the street on the west side of Midway in the apartment complex on the NW corner of Midway and Frankford, there were 3 rapes and 1 MURDER in 2007.
The two sides of Midway are the same part of town. The only difference is that the east side has houses (moderate crime) and the west side has apartments (high crime).

Meanwhile, in "scary" Oak Cliff (inner city);
In the NE corner of Beckley and Colorado, there are half a dozen dilapidated houses and an apartment complex. In 2007, they had 0 murders and 0 rapes.

In MLK and Robert B Cullum, on the South side of Robert B Cullum (fair park, inner city);
There are 3 dumpy houses and a cluster of small businesses. In 2007, there were 0 murders and 0 rapes.

I enjoy eating barbecue in South Dallas, often. I often talk with the local residents. They are VERY street-smart. They are aware of their surroundings and the Fair Park community is very close-knit. It is almost like living in a small town. Everyone knows each other. In a world where everyone recognizes you, nobody expects to get away with a violent crime without retribution, legal or otherwise. The reason it is a close-knit community is because not everyone can afford a car, so their world is very small and they see the same people every day. It is an old neighborhood so many of the residents are retirees.

In contrast, my wife (as most suburbanites) from the burbs often ridicule me for being street-smart and aware of my surroundings. Suburbanites will do stuff like leave a purse unguarded in a supermarket cart while turning around to pick groceries. They will also leave their garages open and wonder why the neighborhood kids go shopping in their garage. Everyone has a car, even kids who have never worked nor earned a dime in their lives, so their world is big and nobody knows each other. You can literally rob the guy who lives down the street and he wouldn't even recognize you as his neighbor. Most crimes in the burbs are perpetrated by spoiled brats who think they are entitled to everything but have never earned anything. These brats are spoiled by their parents and lack any semblance of discipline. Couple that with 2 working parents who do not supervise them and you have a recipe for disaster.

So, racial stereotypes aside, not all parts of "the hood" are unsafe and not all parts of the "burbs" are safe. The only thing that makes you safe is YOU (be careful out there).

If I were a hooker thief or any other kind of Bad guy, I wouldn't be doing my deeds in the neighborhood I live in, where everyone knows me. the place to raise heck and havoc is where the money is. Most bad neighborhoods aren't so bad to drive through, its the stopping and visiting that will get you in troublee

joe817 wrote:killerfly, it sounds like you are wanting to build a map based on the crime rates in particular areas. Well here you go:

http://www.spotcrime.com/tx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's really interesting to play around on that website. After you select a city, there are "push pins" that pinpoint particular crimes, down to the street level.

I just looked up Sherman Texas on this website....it shows a shooting over on Dove Street.....i personally know the GG (good guys) involved in that one. Their was a gathering (poker game) and some unsavory individuals wound up there. Bad things happened, and the "homie" ran off and got his "boys" to come back and get even.

The hoodlums came into my friends yard armed with crowbars and such....the friend, and another mutual friend, had a stand off with them. Both of my friends were armed. When the cops were called, the dispatch said they wouldn't come out until shots were fired. One of the crowbar wielding thugs got too close, and after repeated verbal warnings, the homeowner put a warning shot into the ground at his feet. THey left....some dummy from the poker game chose to follow them down the street to be sure they were leaving; they opened fire on him and his car with a semi-automatic rifle. 16 shots! One hit, on the tire.

Many people could've been hurt or killed that night. I wasn't in attendance, due to being a little broke that evening, lol. I'm glad I wasn't their to be involved, but at the same time, I wish that I could've been there for my friends, considering that there was around 14 hoodlums by all accounts.

Not safe enough?

Then try Conroe, anywhere south of Hwy. 105.
Definately from FM1960 south through downtown. From Louetta north, you're pretty safe...especially in The Woodlands. In Houston, I specifically stay away from the Greenspoint area and the Aldine area.

Lets see

Oakcliff/South Dallas area. Parts of Irving near Airport can get alittle dicey. The poor parts of Carrollton, Ft Worth downtown gets kinda of rough, Houston in general (rape/murder capital of Texas), South Austin east of 35

Waco can be rough but I dont hang out there enough to know

You're right about that. I used to live in that area. Greenspoint Mall - also known as Gunspoint Mall. :fire

The best advice I can give you is look at signs and billboards. If you see a lot of billboards of liquor or beer, or you see a lot of pawn shops and check cashing signs, then you know you're in the wrong place (unless you are a thug and then you might fit in). :coolgleamA:

You can add Fort Hood to the list of unsafe areas.

The point being there is NO area that is safe 100% of the time.
