Refer her to the Civilian Gun Self-Defense Blog. She can read about thousands of individuals who protected themselves with a gun.

I wouldn't try to "let her see the logic" because they are not logical. Woman's mind works very differently. They often cannot be reasoned with; they rely on their feelings a lot. If you listen to them all the time, you are a push-over; if you don't listen to them, you are labeled as "not understanding."

What you need to do is to be yourself, meaning if that is what you believe in, stick to your idea/ideal etc. She doesn't like it and wants to make a fuss? Fine, tell her to get used to it. No argument, no reasoning.

Mine had the similar reaction at first, then quickly saw the light. Once or twice she asked me if I carried. Now when we go out, it's my cell phone, car key, wallet and gun.

Man, I feel for you gents. My wife actually gave me my CHL course as a Christmas present. Didn't complain when I bought my Taurus 9mm, the Crossbreed holster, the gun safe and boxes and boxes of bullets. She goes with me to the range and has even asked for a .22 rifle for her Christmas present this year. Sorry guys, she's mine forever. ;-)

As a pastor who does marriage counseling I've been very impressed with most of the responses I've read. The best thing is to not make a big deal out of it, accept the eye roll and stink eye, and just be assured she will be thankful you have your CCW when it's really necessary. And she will love you for it....forever.

My wife laughed at me when I would carry around the house waiting for my plastic to arrive. Three incidents have happened to her/us in the last few years that got her attention. First was a guy in a hoodie at the front door after I had gone to work, second was a ride on a DART train last fall coming home from the State Fair with 2 of the grandsons, the third was the disappearance of her ex-sister-in-law earlier this spring (who was later found dead in her car west of Sherman. Luckily, none of these turned out to be more that just a wake up call, but a month ago, I sat through her CHL class with her.

Hopefully, in 60 or do days, we can take the Wally Walk (or Tom Thumb) together! :thumbs2:

Well put preacher! :tiphat:

My wife gave me a CHL class for my birthday......I know how you feel! Gotta love 'em. And yes, she will thank you forever, for suggesting that as a present, Heaven forbid you ever have to rely on it.

From what I gather, women are extremely concerned with safety. One of the biggest things you can do is discuss safety with her, listen to all of her concerns and address them.

Safety and drawing analogy to something else she has accepted is the approach I used.

I ride a motorcycle almost daily. I ALWAYS wear a helmet when I ride. Shortly after I got my CHL, as I was putting on my holster before going somewhere with my wife, she asked if I thought I was going to need my pistol wherever we were going. I replied that no, I did not expect or plan to need it, and when I ride my motorcycle, I do not expect or plan to need my crash helmet either, but I always wear it because I'd much rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

She accepted that with a, "huh" and quit asking about the pistol.

I managed to run my wife off a few years back and saw no need in taking on a new boss so I can only speak from my past experiences. I think the reason for the eye rolls and what not is that the Wife is feeling like your being paranoid. I can just imagine what it is like for them to watch you strap on a sidearm to go to places they have always seen as "safe from crime". Heck, I bet there is even a certain amount resentment or irritation at you for suddenly making the "safe haven" a place to fear. By wearing your sidearm, you in essence are making the statement that you feel danger may lurk where you are about to tread. Just some thoughts. :tiphat:

One quote I remember reading on this forum at one point went something like... "If you can tell me the exact day and time that I will need my weapon, I will wait until then to carry it"...or something like that. Feel free to correct my wording if it is off a bit.

I get the eye roll almost everytime I leave with my weapon. She is not against the CHL but thinks everything is fine and that I should not be carring everywhere we go. She like to shoot every now and then and is not afraid to use the house protection. How can I get my point across that anything can happen at anytime?
Concealed mean concealed even from her...: I feel your pain...Go figure It was my wifes idea to get the gun and CHL :???:

Txfig,

The excerpt from Dave Grossman's book was a remarkable exposition. Thank you.

I don't know if it will change another's mind or simply reinforce the thoughts of those who agree with him, but nontheless...remarkable.

I have bookmarked it for use in a CHL class...for my daughters and wife to read.
