I'm not going to Monday morning QB. We can talk about all the "what ifs" we want. The fact is, in this cause, it worked. The guy went back to his truck, end of story.
Is it what I would have done? To be honest, I don't think it would have ever entered my mind. I will say that I behave much differently when I am armed than I do when I'm not. I am much less likely to be confrontational when I'm armed than when I'm not. I guess I feel the added responsibility of carrying a firearm. Of course I try to carry as much as possible so that I'm nicer more often.
What I typically try to do with merging traffic is let one car in and then move up. Most people are going to understand that approach. I've found if you let more than one in, the one that you didn't let in gets pretty ticked. If someone is really intent on getting in front of me, go ahead. In the long run it doesn't cost me anything to let them in the lane.

Me - code Red, right hand on my M&P in the holster. Tell the guy in a loud voice to "GO AWAY." What he does next determines what my next move is. If he's just standing there blowing a fuse for more than a few seconds, I'm calling 911. If he starts to beat on the glass with anything other than his hands, out comes the M&P.

I tend to stay at level yellow ... Wife just calls me paranoid... Head on a swivel... Running through what ifs, constantly scanning for threats, avenues of escape(cover concealment etc aka where can I throw my wife to make sure she is safe) something fishy bam it's orange... Is this threat real... Yes definately- Upgrade to code red move to cover hand on weapon etc ...Maybe Ok stay orange (just in case but take no drastic action) ease around a corner try and be a good witness for a bit and reevaluate situation). NO... Ok back to yellow...

I cannot see how some people can walk around at level white...completely oblivious to their surroundings, not a care on the world... Oh yeah wool=white wool comes from sheep...I guess those without a care in the world are the sheep of society or they have enough sheepdogs or vegetarian wolves around them at all times

This is hearsay so who knows what really happened....In my experience responding to road rage incidents, they usually escalate to the point that both parties are acting the fool. Hypothetically, by waving a CHL ID and saying you have a gun, could result in the other party calling 911 because they now fear for their safety because they were verbally threatened by a person saying they had a gun.

I don't threaten deadly force if I am not justified in using deadly force.

There is a subtle distinction here. I am not saying that every time I pull my handgun that means I have to shoot it. But if I pull my handgun, I am going to be able to articulate why I was legally justified in using deadly force regardless of whether I had to shoot or not.

As a corollary, if I am legally justified in using deadly force, that generally means I am in fear of death or serious bodily injury, or it is "presumed reasonable" to believe that I am in such fear. If I am in fear of death or serious bodily injury, then the police need to be notified of same. If I do not bother to notify the police, I could be setting myself up for someone to counter-argue, "he wasn't really in fear or he would have reported it."

OK, we're in the middle of a construction zone and I can't move (hmmm, in San Antonio, I can't eeeeven imagine this ) so, some idiot has decided I didn't do what he wanted me to do when he wanted so he's going to get out and do something about it....problem is I've lived in CA, I've seen this movie, for real....I'm not going to rely on a piece of plastic, my LCP is going to be in my hand by the time he gets to my window, I'm not going to wait to see if he has a gun or is going to pound on my window with his fist, or is just going to yell at me. Now, I probably won't point that LCP at him, I will however make sure he sees it as he walks up, so he might not even get up to my window.

Once knowing that you were armed, according to your card, the guy might have walked back to his vehicle and reached inside and pulled a rifle or shotgun. You would have been at a disadvantage as he stood outside firing through your windshield.

Scenario question, I hadn't thought about this until now but this makes me wonder. If you pull your gun and do not fire, obviously the first thing you do after making sure the coast is clear and you register is to call it in. I've seen dozens of opinions on how the phone call should go if you shoot, but if you do not shoot how should that one go? Simply call 911 and say what? I've been threatened, feared for my life, and need assistance. Then explain the gun situation when they arrive? I know you want to be the first to call but just have not thought about if I don't shoot because if I pull I plan to shoot.
