I had a cop tell me, just inside an unenforceable 30.06, that it also applied to loaded magazines. That was obviously a lie.Dreamliner wrote:After the check at the door and putting on the plastic zip ties, is having a loaded mag in the pocket ok?

Common usage of the word "lie" usually comprehends that the speaker, or writer, knows the statement is an untruth, and that he has an intent to deceive; as contrasted with speaking or writing an untruth, not knowing that it is untrue.jordanmills wrote:I had a cop tell me, just inside an unenforceable 30.06, that it also applied to loaded magazines. Are you certain this law officer lied to you? Might you be giving him credit for more knowledge of the intricacies of gun law than he deserves?

It looks like the "punishment" fit the "crime" and you learned your lesson.n5wmk wrote:I did leave my EDC in the lock box in my truck though and didn't carry inside. Bought a couple of things - "mega" box of .45 ACP ammo, and a flashlight/laser. Later determined I could have bought the ammo for the same price at the store, and got ripped off on the light, with no response from the seller to e-mail or phone calls. So I probably won't be going to gun shows again anytime soon.

Re: Concealed carry at gun shows?
When I started looking for my first AR style rifle I started going to a few of the shows around the DFW area earlier this year. I have yet to see a better deal on ammo than an actual store.n5wmk wrote:I went to the gun show (first time in years) at the Allen event center back in June/July. Called the phone number listed on the show host's website to ask about 30.06. The lady on the phone said "all gun shows in the DFW area are 30.06 posted". And they did have compliant signs at the check-in desk, with LEO checking the firearms that were brought in to sell. LEO checked that they were unloaded, then put a color-coded plastic zip tie through the action. No metal detectors, so they wouldn't have been able to tell if anyone was CC. Had the cop at the entrance check my gun then put it into the holster.
When I left I just removed the plastic clamp at the door with the wire cutters they had there and then put the mag back in the go as I stepped out.
There was no 30.06 posted but a sign saying no unloaded weapons including CHL. The show was at the Allen event center which I assume is city property.

In that case, Jim, I suppose you have no objection to me stating as fact that any business that chooses to post a 30.06 is responsible for their choice. In addition, like business that post a "Whites Only" sign, it's a great idea to boycott those anti-CHL businesses unless you agree with and/or want to financially support their ignorance and bigotry.57Coastie wrote:I only suggest that this might merit some thought, taking no position on the points I raise.

I just let them zip tie my .38 and conceal it as I would normally, while keeping 5 rounds and a pocket knife handy just in case.

I found this on the George R Brown convention centers web sight 'rules and regulations'
"(1) Possession of Firearms is forbidden in the Facility with the exception of the following: (i) licensed peace officers and licensed honorably retired peace officers and (ii) exhibitors and patrons during duly licensed gun shows and (iii) individuals licensed by the State of Texas to carry concealed handguns.
(2) A “Firearm” is defined as any device designed, made, or adapted to expel a projectile through a barrel or cylinder by using the energy generated by an explosion or burning substance or pressurized air or gas or any device readily convertible to that use."
This is from the george r brown convention centers rules and regulations. Not sure about other venues.....

Re: Concealed carry at gun shows?
Well that is legally accurate. If you are not licensed, then it is illegal to carry anyway. So they are banning people who are already committing a crime. Posting that in the rules also strengthens the ability to tack an armed trespassing charge on top of the UCW charge.Murphy66 wrote:I found this on the George R Brown convention centers web sight 'rules and regulations'

Re: Concealed carry at gun shows?
I guess Ill have to call and ask if CC is allowed. I cannot find anything on their website for either the Tyler/Longview gun show regarding rules. Last time I went to a show I waited in line for 20mins+ and I would hate to wait all that time only to have to turn around to walk back to my truck to disarm. I know they don't allow and ammo inside the building.

Re: Concealed carry at gun shows?
I'll be the test case...
I may have been already at Dallas Love Field, Chuck E. Cheeses, the Old Mill at the Texas State Fair, Grapevine Mills Mall, and a number of other places I can't seem to recall at this advanced hour. So far it hasn't cost me a penny except for the funnel cakes at the Fair and the crappy pizza at Chuck E.
Someday though, someone WILL be the proverbial "test case"...for these incorrect 30.06 postings, but don't hold your breath... If my understanding of Texas Penal Law and criminal procedure is correct, only cases decided at the appellate level make DUHN>>>DUHN>>>DUHN... CASE LAW. So it may be a (long) while before a prosecution gets this far without being dropped by DA, thrown out by judge, pled down by a crappy defense to a class C, or lost at trial...and then verdict appealed. So in the meantime I'm going to have to make a priority to go to the Allen gun show. I'll be the middle aged white (orange) guy that you WON'T see carrying IWB at 5 o'clock.

First rule of gun shows and ham radio flea markets - know what you're looking for and know what you want to pay for it BEFORE you go to the show. That way, you'll know whether you're getting ripped off or not.n5wmk wrote:... Bought a couple of things - "mega" box of .45 ACP ammo, and a flashlight/laser. Re: Concealed carry at gun shows?
You would think having a bunch of FFLs in a room they would compete and lower prices but it seems the opposite happens. The prices are higher than what you could buy it for at the store. Sometimes you can find good deals or if you know how to negotiate the price.n5wd wrote: First rule of gun shows and ham radio flea markets - know what you're looking for and know what you want to pay for it BEFORE you go to the show.
