What am I missing? Does he/she/other have an LTC?? :headscratch :headscratch

GP3? Yes i do have an ltc.... i oc nearly always and my daughters coach does practice at her 5,6 grade school.... i registered mainly to ask that question. I also plan to call the local police and ensure that the chief understands this law before i actually ACT. I do not have the resources to be a test case, but i do plan to exercise my rights to the fullest extent. Maybe i can demonstrate to my daughters teammates what is proper oc etiquette. Idk, I guess i do just wanted to poke the bear...lol without getting mauled.

Better read that Attorney General opinion on carrying on school grounds... Will throw a monkey wrench into this thread.

"I also plan to call the local police and ensure that the chief understands this law before i actually ACT" GP3's response

"I am very sure the Chief will really like it when you tell him what the law is as YOU understand it Because you are in possession Of Texas LTC"

My response to the above. You need either rabbits feet or horseshoes in every pocket. Bon Chance, Bueno suerte

And on top of that does what does the Coach have to do with it ?

My quoted response was well before open carry came around.

I think it's still correct.

I would just warn, schools create emotional responses, so I would not count on the police to be well informed on the law.
I personally would never open carry anywhere near a school, ever!
Geez. Just conceal. Why poke the bear? Unless , you're willing to be that "test case" we reference often.
Four years isn't too shabby.
Good citations by you and RPB though. I was fixing to thank you two. :-)

(Thank you both. This is still a good example of why most of us hang out here. )

(1) on the physical premises of a school or educational institution, any grounds or building on which an activity sponsored by a school or educational institution is being conducted, or a passenger transportation vehicle of a school or educational institution, whether the school or educational institution is public or private, unless pursuant to written regulations or written authorization of the institution;

Sec. 46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE HOLDER. (a) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder carries a handgun on or about the license holder's person under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, and intentionally fails to conceal the handgun.
(b) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries a handgun under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, regardless of whether the handgun is concealed, on or about the license holder's person:
(1) on the premises of a business that has a permit or license issued under Chapter 25, 28, 32, 69, or 74, Alcoholic Beverage Code, if the business derives 51 percent or more of its income from the sale or service of alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption, as determined by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission under Section 104.06, Alcoholic Beverage Code;
(2) on the premises where a high school, collegiate, or professional sporting event or interscholastic event is taking place, unless the license holder is a participant in the event and a handgun is used in the event;

(3) "Premises" means a building or a portion of a building. The term does not include any public or private driveway, street, sidewalk or walkway, parking lot, parking garage, or other parking area.

These laws saw that you can carry on the grounds of a school as long as there is not an 'activity' occurring, but you cannot go inside any building.
I carry with my daughter at my side up to the point of the threshold of her building, kiss her there, then turn around and walk back to my car.

The attached is the AG opinion on this. The one thing I would like to point out about parking lots is actually written in this letter. That is if a school activity is being conducted in a parking lot (ie band practice) then that parking lot would be off limits for the time the practice is being conducted.
