right or wrong I have carried since I was 18 and do feel less safe without it. Not a crutch necessarily but too much knowledge of the dangers in the world. I go around Alvin without it a lot but not outside the city limits (ie houston, pearland, galveston, etc.). I remember carrying into clubs and such when I was much younger and have long known what "concealed" really means. Lucky i was never caught exercising my rights but at least it is legal now.

What I hate about carrying 24/7 is that I can't carry 24/7.

It irks me that there are 30.06 sites, the Post Office,
and schools.

How is it that we can be responsible 2A people most of the time,
but we would lose our mind if we went into the above sites?

I don't really worry about the small chance of encountering a BG
when I have to disarm for the above sites, but to minimize any
theft problems I empty my gun and bring all the ammo with me.

That way, if a BG broke into the truck while I was away, he might get
the gun, but would have to go ammo shopping.

Now if I had a .380 that would mean the BG would never get to
shoot my gun!! :-)

I just got back from and 8-day trip through Nevada, California, Oregon, and Washington.
None of those states reciprocate with TX CHLs, so I did not even pack a firearm.
A lot of our stops were in deserted remote areas. I felt very exposed

Just today, my wife wanted me to do the grocery run after work (not allowed to carry at work). So, after work, I came home. She was, "What are you doing?" "Arming myself." Just LOL...didn't even think about it until she asked. Just habit now, when I go out and about.

Ever been unarmed, then realize your gun isn't there a split second before you realize that it isn't actually supposed to be there?
That used to happen to me in college and in that split second I'd get an adrenaline dump thinking my gun had fallen off or I'd left it in a restroom or something.

I, like most, can't carry at work and am subject to the parking lot rule.
But when I'm off shift I try to carry everywhere I go...even around the house.
If I go out and I'm CCing I'm pretty aware/alert but when I'm not packin boy let me tell ya...my situational awareness seems to go through the roof!!
That being said I carry to keep from being paranoid.

Yes, to a degree and I would guess that's so for many of us.

However, when unarmed my vigilance cranks way up and is a good reminder to stay that way when back to being armed as complacency has a way of settling in...

I carry almost all of the time, including in my home and I practice at the range as often as possible. I also dryfire practice to improve speed of drawing, acquiring, and firing with random targets around the house of varying sizes and distances. So-I feel reasonably confident that I've familiarized myself enough to defend my self with all of my carry weapons.

My problem is that I feel absolutely naked and defenseless when I'm unarmed and I didn't feel that way before I began carrying. Is that a common sentiment around here?

I pretty much carry 24/7. I am fortunate in that I can carry at work, and I leave my weapon on after I get home. I have entered the stage where I always carry a bug as well. Actually, when I am working at remote sites, I am very uncomfortable if I don't have my M4 with me.

That being said, on the rare occasions when I am away from work and for some reason do not carry, I don't feel uncomfortable as long as I am by myself. I simply will not go out unarmed if I am with my wife, family, nephews and nieces. In short, being with people I am responsible for would make me comfortable if I were unarmed. If I am by myself, I still have a lot of confidence in my ability to punch/duck/run.

I guess I'm being my usual thick headed self, but...

The title of the thread has nothing to do with carrying. It has everything to do with having permission to do so.

Following that track, although I have my license, it does bother me that I am on some sort of data base. The class portions that has to do with safety and responsibility are great. A couple of members of my family have attended the classes, but, for whatever reasons, have chosen not to carry. Me, I carry when I take out the trash or check the mail box.

Yup, me too. When I don't carry I feel naked and exposed. If a gun cannot go with I make sure to pack a pocket knife so I have something. One thing I suggest if you have an alternate carry you should train with it and be familiar getting to it.
