Frankly, I don't want to see it (your gun). It's an eyesore, and I don't need that in my face everywhere I turn. Honestly, I find it offensive.
CHLSteve,

Thanks for your reply. Could I kindly ask your thoughts on the question in the inital post: “Would you be in favor of Brady or other anti-2A legislation to ban open carry in the 44 states that currently allow OC?

Conagher,

By virtue of your question, it would seem you equate those with a negative attitude toward open carry as being in favor of Brady or other anti-2A legislation.

Am I wrong?

One can be opposed to components - while remaining in favor of the overall, in regard to any subject.

I do appreciate when it comes to gun rights, some folks are all or nothing and won't mess with Mr. In-Between...

When one group cares to discuss, what a few others find no longer interesting - it's time for the disinterested to move on to other threads...your fingers are your friends.

This is where I feel they make the huge blunder. By being so adamant that it is all or none, they alienate the majority, which can include many pro 2nd amendment folks.

Abraham,

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I wasn't stretching it quite as far as you imply. My assumption is that those opposed the open carry are opposed to it as a "concept" and thus would be in favor of abolishing it. I am also assuming they do not believe it is a Texan competency issue, so the outlaw of OC would apply throughout the US. I could not imagine a pro-2A organiztion proposing such a ban, so just assumed it would be Brady or other anti-2A legislation. Does this explanation help convey my thoughts?

Thanks & Have a Nice Day!

I object to the frame of the question
1. Each state is free to do what it desires-states rights uber alles.
2. Objecting to OC does not put one in the Brady camp-thats a nonstarter strawman.

TO OC itself, I am not a fan-especially of unlicensed OC. The moment some chip on shoulder Yayhoo starts sporting a pistol around means every private location is going to ban OC and CHL's. You have no right if you can't use it.

Having said that I would be amenable to a reasonable rule that local jurisdictions could permit/restrict. I'd see a higher likelihood for rural districts permitting than urban, and frankly I trust the rural folk much more to have a level head than urban.

I feel the same way about seeing a crucifix or a Mexican flag in America. Can Texas pass a law to force them to conceal?

If most of the newbs here would actually go back and read my position on OC you would see that I am very much in favor. In fact I am one of the few who actually believes firmly that the 2A is supreme and that the words "shall not be infringed" means exactly as it reads.

Then I read all of these posts where lots of OC supporters advocate their ideas of regulation....their definition of "loonies" just cannot be allowed to carry firearms. Heaven forbid if someone who is not trained or takes a test or is investigated by the feds or turns in fingerprints actually puts on a firearm. How did we ever get along without background checks or gun laws?

Now we see that some here just don't want to see my gun.

Some don't want to see a mexican flag.

Some don't want to see the Cross of Christ.

Wow.

This place just isn't what it used to be. Not so long ago the vast majority of participants here actually supported the right to keep and bear arms along with all of the other rights we still have or should have.

Not anymore.

sorry, I don't follow this. Do you mean the sight of a non-uniformed individual with gun is offensive?

This is an interesting thought process. I actually feel the same way about tatoos - I find them disgusting and offensive. However, living in the land of the free, it just does not seem reasonable for me to insist on the restriction of someone's freedom because of my perception or preference. So instead of actively opposing body art, or insisting that it be concealed, I simply don't look at it.

Thanks & Have a Nice Day!
