Re: Dallas Super 8 30.06 sign....wierd place to put it
How about a hypothetical:
He walks in and sees the sign, but this time tells the guy why he's leaving and the guy says "Oh don't worry about that" or "we only put that there to satisfy corporate"...something of that nature. Being a representative of that company, however low on the food chain he is, does it change anything?
I personally wouldn't trust it to keep me out of jail if a problem arises, just curious what anyone else would do?

But probably not at a Motel 8. they usually don't have meeting rooms, or much for common areas.Charles L. Cotton wrote:I I've attended a lot of meetings at hotels without ever going to the registration desk.

I wouldn't trust it either, and would request corporate's address so you can explain to them, including details of the guy telling you it's up there to be ignored.onecoolpilot wrote:How about a hypothetical:

trying to explain it to the overnight desk help would be as effective as teaching trigonometry to kindergarten kids. take it corporate....jimlongley wrote:Proper sign or not, you should have let them know what caused you to leave. What were you avoiding by not doing so?

I have to agree. I have made up several of the no gun/no money cards and I would have a least handed it to him and ask him to give it to his boss.jimlongley wrote:Proper sign or not, you should have let them know what caused you to leave. What were you avoiding by not doing so?

The main reason I didnt say anything is b/c of this was playing out in my mind...So I say the the clerk why I am not staying in the hotel is b/c of your 30.06 sign, the clerk gets says, you are already violated 30.06, (which I didnt since once I was notified (sign) I walked out of the buisness), decides to call the LEO, and now I have to wait for them, explain my side of the whole ordeal... just didnt want to take any chance. I did so much want to tell them why I wasnt staying, but I didnt want to play the that card out and see what would happen.

The law about posting signs is that they must exactly meet the requirements. Signs are either compliant or not. But, we all make our own decisions.
I am glad you didn't stay. I hope you write the management, owners, and anyone else involved and tell them why you will not stay at their motel again or recommend it to anyone. I would even tell them how you are warning others not to stay there in person and over the internet. Please don't let this go. Do something even if the signs are worthless. If we all fight the little battles we have less of a problem with the big ones.

What makes the sign at this motel worthless? If is was proper size, wording, etc, it is valid at the point it is posted. It doesn't have to be at the door.shootthesheet wrote: Do something even if the signs are worthless.

Nope, you did not tell them you were carrying, just that you were not staying there due to their discrimination against law abiding citizens, no reason to call LEO in the first place, and even if they were called, you were, once again, not revealing that you were carrying, etc.para45 wrote:So I say the the clerk why I am not staying in the hotel is b/c of your 30.06 sign, the clerk gets says, you are already violated 30.06, (which I didnt since once I was notified (sign) I walked out of the buisness), decides to call the LEO, and now I have to wait for them, explain my side of the whole ordeal... just didnt want to take any chance. If nothing else, write to them, hard copy, and let them know why you didn't stay there and why no self-respecting law abiding citizen will stay there in the future.

Why would you have to wait? Is the clerk going to tackle you for trying to leave once you've received sufficient notice that you have to leave?para45 wrote:...the clerk gets says, you are already violated 30.06, (which I didnt since once I was notified (sign) I walked out of the buisness), decides to call the LEO, and now I have to wait for them, explain my side of the whole ordeal...
"Sorry, I can't stay here. That's why: -------> (pointing)"
And then leave. They'll understand why. They're certainly not going to call the police because you left.
But that's under the bridge. We all think of what we should have said, after it's over. Go ahead and follow up with both the owner, and Super 8 (you should assume they're not the same entity). Motel night auditors aren't real high on the chain of command, so I wouldn't expect them to type up a report about some guy who didn't rent a room.
