Buying a firearm with a Non resident CWP

Hey guys, I have an Arizona Non-resident CWP, and am wondering if the bypass on call to FBI is the same as Texas CHLs. Thanks in advance.

ATF only allows in-state CHL, no out-of-state CHL, even if it's permissible to bypass the NICS check.

Why wait? The laws are going to pass, but even if they didn't, your AZ permit still leaves you with fewer options and slightly more liability (GFSZ) than a CHL. Getting your CHL now would improve your position today, and improve it again when the laws you're waiting for pass. Seems like a no-brained to me.

I'm glad you asked, I was wondering the same thing. What law is going to pass that would give you additional reason to have a TX situation later Vs. now?

I just rather wait, I travel to Ohio on a regular, and Texas chl is a no go. I guess the main reason to wait is I dont feel the Texas chl is worth the money, I have a Fl cwp, and Az. both of those together cost less than a Tx chl. Don't get me wrong I plan on getting a Tx Chl. Just want to wait. What liability in gun free zones? I didn't follow that part.

Ok, just read the Gun Free School Zone Act 1990... looks like I will be paying for that overpriced piece of plastic. It looks to me that the only time that law has been enforced was in cases where the people weren't just normal law abiding citizens driving through a school zone. But not worth the risk.

I also can't speak for all law enforcement here, but I can definitely tell you my daughter (LEO in Arlington) and all of her friends agree: they very much prefer dealing with somebody that has a TX CHL, rather than an out of state one, even for routine traffic stops.

Exactly....... and it doesn't have to be that you're "not a normal law abiding citizen" either. When I first moved to Texas, I was shocked to see that most school zones were limited to 20mph during hours of activity, when I had been used to 25 mph zones all of my life until then. A week after we got here (I was one of 5 guys who relocated a business from southern California to Texas), one of my coworkers was a little bit late to work because he got stopped and ticketed for doing 22 mph in a 20 mph school zone. I've never forgotten that lesson. Doing 22 in a 20 zone is so easy to do without meaning to that it probably happens to most of us with some degree of frequency.

And THAT is enough to get you stopped, and then asked if there are any weapons in your car, and if so, where, and then asked for your (nonexistent) TEXAS CHL.

I agree that it is overpriced compared to other states, but it costs a daggum sight less than a lawyer or a trial or a fine or jail. Maybe - probably - it shouldn't be that way, but the reality is that it IS that way. So to put a twist on an old saying, "You don't pays your dues, and you takes your chances"......
