My friend has carried in hospitals a time or two to avoid the inconvenience of going back to the car, even though he realizes a Class A misd. is serious in Texas (He believes that is what the charge could be.) In the case presented, my friend would consider asking the valet parking guy to please ask a security guard, if handy, to please step outside. Then, relate the situation and ask him to check the weapon until your return from inside, at which time he could walk with you outside and return the weapon. If that doesn't work, my friend would be tempted to use another entrance and take the chance afforded by "Concealed is Concealed".

On the druggy forums they always use the acronym swim when confessing to crime. I suppose that is like saying, "no disrespect" right before taking a cheap shot at a person.

Hypothetically you could drop off your firearm at their security desk and pick it up later. Usually they are right there at the entrances.
But this isn't always the case, so hypothetically it might be what a friend of mine might have done.

I think I would give more consideration to hiding it in the flower pot by the door than I would giving it to "security".

my question is what is the penalty if caught? can't remember but if it is a 30.06 sign they have to ask you to leave, say you just didn't see the sign etc? i was thinking that you would only be charged if they ask you to leave and you didn't?
again i can't remember the consequences(sp) if caught in a 30.06 zone. 51% is a differant story.

Yeah, I feel fairly certain that if for whatever reason I got caught, if I just told them that I was getting my car keys so that I could head straight back out to put it up, it PROBABLY would have been a non-issue. But if not and they called the cops, I still feel I would have been able to explain my situation and instill confidence that I wasn't about to shoot up the place.

An arrest for violating a 30.06 sign is a Class A misdemeanor. - up to one year in jail.

Note there is nothing in the law that says one has to see the sign or knowingly trespass. The sign simply needs to be properly posted.

With the OnStar app on my smart phone, I can lock or unlock my vehicle with my phone. I can also remotely start the vehicle. Don't use it a tremendous amount, but it nice to have it when I need it.

This just illustrates the stupidity of having a patchwork of places you can and can't carry. Every CHL holder will run in to this situation if he carries long enough. The 30.06 system implies that you know with absolute certainty where you will be going when you leave the house and that you will always have a vehicle that you can stow the weapon. No one can possibly predict all events which may befall you on any given day.

What if you go to the movies with friends and you are not the driver and at the last minute everyone votes for a bar instead? Then you have to reveal your CHL to the group and leave your gun in someone else's car- and that is assuming they are ok with that.

So to be sure you are always legally compliant, the only choice is to never carry. The law should be 'carry everwhere' unless it's a government building with metal detectors. We all know what bad guys think of 30.06 signs.
