As long as we get separate rooms, I am okay with this. The Annoyed Man wrote:If you include Bill and me in your budget, we'll even take it to the range, check it for accuracy, function fire it, torture test it, and then clean the gun for you while you're in Mexico.WildBill wrote:There is one more alternative that I can think of.
It might be more costly than finding a pawn shop or FFL, but you can be certain that your handgun will be in good hands.
If you pay my hotel and meals for the week I will stay in South Padre and store your handgun for you while you are in Mexico.

Re: PISTOL STORAGE WHILE ON VACATION?
Thanks for the offer, but theres only room for two in our pickup.
I bought the nano200, that's what I'm using while parked in Progresso.
I'll answer why anyone would go to Mexico: it's a great experience. Being there is exciting. the goods they have are $$$. what a variety of stuff! Cuban cigars, OH! Mexican plates, my wife loves to buy them. Silver for next to nothing. curious of every kind. The people bend over backwards to help. The American senior citizens out number the younger Texans.
ANYTHING YOU WANT!!!!
I plan to shop for a holster. I know they have them, but I only remember big gawdy revolver units. I'm hoping for a IWB that fits my LC9.
We're never afraid, but always on guard. Was that enough?

Mexico must have adopted DC's gun laws.Teamless wrote:I would NOT transport your gun into Mexico - PERIOD
In a locked box or any other way.
IF they find it, you WILL be in Mexican Federal Prison!
Just a few years ago, there were many news stories about people who had left 1 round of ammunition in their baggage, they were put into Prison.
Imagine the time you would get for an actual gun?
Do NOT DO IT!

I don't agree with the ANYTHING YOU WANT!!! part, but it is fun. I haven't been there in a long time and I know people are concerned about their safety and security, so I can't offer any opinion on that.djbeckett wrote:I'll answer why anyone would go to Mexico: it's a great experience. I have gone there numerous times. The people are friendly and helpful. IMO, the tourists from the U.S. side is the only reason this town can flourish. This time of year there are many visitors from the north and northeast who go to enjoy the weather. I enjoyed eating in the couple of "high-end" restaurants and shopping at the curio stores. I never did see any high quality leather goods that I was interested in purchasing. My favorite store was the duty free shop where I could buy a bottle of high-end booze for about $15 and a carton of cigarettes for $11. I am sure the prices are higher now.

This or leave it with a gunsmith, but DON'T take a firearm or ammunition into Mexico. The penalties are WAAAY too onerous!

If you don't want to go into Mexico without a firearm, then don't go to Mexico.

The article stated that the Vidor man was found guilty of smuggling the bullets. I wonder if that is correct.According to Watkins, 30 Americans currently are jailed in Nuevo Laredo, 11 of them on charges similar to Bean's. Eight still await verdict and sentencing.
I wonder if the smuggling has a higher penalty that for possession of the ammunition. I hope he can get transferred to the U.S. and get out of jail quickly.
I wonder if his arrest in Mexico is counted in the U.S. as conviction.

Re: PISTOL STORAGE WHILE ON VACATION?
Went to Matamoros once many years ago. Many seniors go to buy their prescriptions cheaper than in the US. Who knows how much is Chinese counterfeit now. I remember when they were finding a bunch of missing college students in mass graves. Best 10 cents I ever spent was walking across the border coming back to the US. I don't know what it cost now but I never want to go to Mexico again. Taking a gun into Mexico will land you in jail, as others have said. What the US really needs to do is to copy Mexico's laws for illegal immigrants. We wouldn't have any illegals if we did what Mexico does. You want to go south, go to Costa Rica. Great country, they have and honor a real constitution. But no guns either. As a pilot I have always had 2 rules, never fly out of the US, never fly over the ocean.
Re: PISTOL STORAGE WHILE ON VACATION?
This has got to be a group of trolls, the people saying "don't go to Mexico with guns". I never, ever said that. My question was how folks stored a pistol while in Mexico.
I get it: don't take a gun to Mexico.
I bought the Nano 200. It fits my LC9 like a glove. ≈$32.00 online, looks like it will work great while PARKED IN TEXAS..............

Re: PISTOL STORAGE WHILE ON VACATION?
djbeckett,
Greyhound & Trailways have (or did, I haven't been in a bus station in decades) lockers of various sizes.
At one time, you would put your luggage in one, put in a quarter or whatever depending on the size locker you chose, close the door, turn and pull out the key and take the key with you. If I recall correctly a quarter (or more) was good for 24 hours or you would put in more quarters for a longer storage time.
How secure are they? I don't know. Fairly I guess, as we used them a lot and never had one broken into. If I had no other choice, I guess I'd use an old beat up suitcase and store them in that, put it in the locker and go.
Good luck!
P.S. The guys are just razzing you about not taking your gun to...not trolling.

I would want to be carrying in the few Greyhound & Trailways bus stations that I have been to. In my experience, they are all in pretty bad areas.Abraham wrote:djbeckett,

Has anybody mentioned yet that you shouldn't take guns or ammo into Mexico unless you work for Eric Holder?
sent to you from my safe space in the hill country

I know the previous were kidding, they were not prior to that. Uninformed people are dangerous, not Mexico:
44 gun related homicides in Chicage, 2013
1 in Nueva progresso, Mexico since 2009
Still waiting for the CHL since Dec. 20th.
