Open Carry Incident - Police Scanner

#1

Post by AlaskanInTexas »

While listening to the Dallas PD central district scanner frequency (as I am wont to do while at work), I heard a call for a man with an AR-15 at a downtown intersection. Best I can tell it, it turned out to be a concealed carry permit holder making a point about open carry. We often see videos of the direct police interaction, but it was interesting to hear the radio chatter on this. It was taken very seriously, but there was some confusion during the dispatch. It reiterated to me the danger people put themselves in by doing this.

What sort of confusion? What was the outcome?

Definitely the type of action that is going to a see a lot more negative outcomes than possible good ones.. .

Confusion may not have been the best word - there was just a lot of urgency, people talking over each other, not sure what was going on, etc...

It turns out that they stopped and released him and then he joined a group of 100-150 protesters going to Deally Plaza. The call about the large group came well after the stop of the AR-15 guy. It was interesting to note that one of the officers handling the guy with the gun, when he heard the call for the protest group, said that they should disregard the guy with the gun because he had already handled it.

I wonder how many of the "Demonstrators" had been born 50 years ago. What positive outcome could there possibly be for this activity?

Seems we have a hard core group of open carry advocates who are simply bent on getting our gun rights curtailed. We like to talk about how impossible it is to talk sense into liberals, but these people seem just as unable to think past their own imagined reality. The reality is if this keeps happening they ARE going to stimulate people to apply pressure to legislators. Just not the way these idiots are hoping. Greg Abbot has stated he supports OC. If these demonstrators will knock it off, I doubt that position will garner all that much attention during the election, but if they keep it up, the media will lap it up and help hand votes to Wendy Davis.

IMO, the assassination of President Kennedy provided the fuel need to give politicians the support they needed to start passing gun control laws.
First, the mail order guns and then the "cheap guns", FFLs, prohibited persons and import restrictions.

The funny part is, they would accuse us of being anti gun for realizing they are out of line.

I would like to see a Wendy Davis interview on this incident.

Completely agree, thanks for your post.

With rights comes responsibility, and responsibility involves reasonable thought and common sense...... traits often not found in people or groups who want everything their way.

I carried an M-16 daily in Vietnam for 2 years. Even though I am well equipped with with it's civilian counterpart, I see no valid reason to carry either an AR-15 or M-4 in public.

As a former LEO, I know first hand that 'man with a gun' calls tie up a lot of manpower and resources. In this day and age where school and work place shootings are evoking so much anti-gun sentiment, I see no valid, common sense reasoning behind giving the opposition more ammunition to use against us because of actions commonly associated with publicity stunts.
