I will, as Charles suggests let this lay. He is certainly better attuned to the 'Big Picture' than I :txflag:

It just frosts me that you can't get a straight answer out of the anti's. If they are posting 30.06, why aren't they proud of it since it makes them so safe and cuddly and everything? :banghead:

It irritates the bejezus out of me to go somewhere, walk the thousand miles uphill through the snow on my bare knees over broken glass to the front door of some libtard business only to find a 30.06 sign so I have to go the thousand miles uphill through the snow on my bare knees over broken glass back to my ride to disarm while hoping nobody sees me and makes a 'man with gun call' to the po po while hoping I don't slip and shoot myself while putting the pistol in the glove compartment and then I walk the thousand miles uphill through the snow on my bare knees over broken glass to the front door again while now worrying that if my truck gets stolen while I am in the store spending money with the libtard business I may emerge to find a now well armed criminal driving off with my truck.... :mad5

Just sayin....

Oh... and not surprisingly... no response to my written request for an answer if they are posted 30.06 or not....

Can you post it to the 30.06 board?

You might take a slightly less aggressive tone with the "libtards". I'm sure that not all of those businesses are left wing. Some may be on the fence and simply need a little education about the statistics around CHL holders in order to change their mind. I'm sure than many are just responding to the demands of insurance providers and other outside forces. Calling them "libtards" or coming off on the offensive probably isn't going to encourage a reversal of course.

I do understand the frustration.

I like Chas' thoughts on the issue. I agree.. It's better to say nothing here than push notification in places that are doing it wrong and force them to make changes that are likely to be permanent.

Perhaps anti-tards? You coin a name... ;-) I was and am very polite with anyone I contact on this issue who is on the wrong side... I was even nice to the Hotel Manager who did everything but flat call me a liar that I had a reservation at an event in his Hotel... I do tend to vent a bit here... Guess the frustration has to come out somewhere... :banghead:

I did find your comment "demands of insurance providers and other outside forces" interesting... there is a great question for a new thread! viewtopic.php?f=7&t=69510" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The less we harass businesses one way or the other on gun issues, the better off we will be. All that pressure just doesn't go the direction we hope more often than not.

Once a business posts 30.06 they have pretty much made their opinion clear, have they not?

While I do not think anyone should be 'harassed' over a choice they have the right to make, is it your opinion that they should not be politely informed that there are economic consequences which result from their choice?

I have changed physicians, auto dealer, bank and other businesses because of their choices regarding my right to self defense. I have on each occasion very politely informed them of my reasons for no longer giving them my money.

I intend to continue to do so. Would you prefer that I not?

Let's compare the difference:
  • One business posts properly, and you choose not to enter anymore, and provide them with the reason.
    • Worst case, they remain posted (net gain of zero), or,
    • Best case, they de-post (net gain of one)
  • One business posts improperly, and someone chooses to take some form of punitive action against them because they didn't inform them.
    • Best case, they de-post (net gain of one), although I doubt that is the reaction we'd see.
    • Middle choice, they remain posted improperly (net gain of zero) or they post properly (net loss of one).
    • Worst case, as pointed out by our brethren, is that they pass the word on to their colleagues in other establishments via industry connections, and then their colleagues begin posting properly to avoid the punitive actions (net loss of FAR TOO MANY).
Your statement was a non-sequitur. There is a difference in what you're doing versus what was asked in the OP.
Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.

Harass and inform are two different things. I certainly do politely tell a business that I will respect their viewpoint and not enter their property if it is posted. The key is for them to see a calm person simply disappointed. Not an angry person who thinks the right to carry supercedes their private property rights. When people snow a business with angry mail or open carry in ways that make others uncomfortable, it reinforces the perception people who carry guns may be dangerous. I sympathize with the OP but the pressure applied in such repeated ways may do a lot more to get it posted than to get a green light. Just an observation. :tiphat:

I agree with Mr. Cotton and others on this one. But the poster asked a simple question, who does he complain to because the hotel is in violation (possibly- we don't know for sure) of the law. The issue is not should he complain but to whom if he so wishes ( and I hope he doesn't). We know that the business will complain to the police if the poster is carrying past a 30.06 sign. Again, I don't know the value of complaining here but where would such a claim go. I agree though that when we do a good job of telling business how to properly do a 30.06 we are hurting ourselves.

Do you have to rent a room to count as a hotel guest or does having a drink in the bar count?

In terms of the language around notification - it deals with making a reservation.

I'm not against polite notification. And I think no-notification means zero consequences.
Just statistically speaking:
1) CHLs are like 2% of the total population. We're probably not a very big business impact unless we're talking about a business that has more CHL customers than non.
2) Not all CHLs carry. It knocks the impact down more.
3) Of those that do carry, not all of us would choose not to do business with a 30.06 posting business. Further disengaging the impact.
4) Of those CHLs that do care, not all of them are going to politely notify...

Basically, I'm not sure that we're a huge market force here...
I think polite notification is a great idea. Along with the statistics that show that CHLs are a much less likely to be involved in a crime when compared to the population as a whole.

If he does that, he should also make sure to tell the hotel if their sign has any mistakes.
