Sounds like a great opportunity to make a convert. Tell her she could make it up to you by going with you to the range.

My father (USMC Ret. Vietnam ) told me once that you should always trust your first instincts. Your gut is usually correct. If that's how she reacts to carrying legally, imagine she when she sees the gun safes in my office. Or my elk, deer and bobcat mounts in my living room. Or finds me cleaning the dove I shot this morning. I'm not in the market for a drama queen. I just divorced one.

Not suggesting you marry the girl, just a trip to the range. I would think, after what she put you through, seeing her out of her comfort zone would be a little fun.

I like that idea. Don't go on a second date with her. Offer to take her to the range as a friend. It would be even better if you bring along a woman who shoots to (a) show that women and guns do go together and (b) make it clear it's not a date.

She's a friend to some of your friends, so accepting the olive branch seems like the right thing to do. It's even more so if you no longer have any romantic interest in her, because there's no ulterior motive.

And then next time she freaks out and starts screaming because McDonald's is out of chicken nuggets.

I am afraid I couldn't overcome those bumper stickers. That's pushing it.

I completely agree, run far far away. I would feel so much better if I went on a date and discovered my date was carrying. I would be happy to know that my date was prepared to protect us if a BG tried to do harm or rob us. I lived in Houston for many years and have seen many horrible crimes while living there. Sparky3131 sound like a true gentleman. :tiphat:

Sometimes we're the only copy of the second amendment that people see. Don't be so quick to dismiss her request for a second chance. You have an opportunity to present an alternate view of gun owners to her that she may not have seen before in person.

Also, other than her opinion on guns, she might be an interesting person worthy of getting to know. After all, there's something about her that your common friends find worthwhile.

I'm not saying another date, maybe coffee or a casual lunch. I'm not sure about the range idea, though. Her initial reaction was pretty severe. You did say that things were going well before she made her discovery.

I agree with you Sparky.
IMO the lady's problem isn't her beliefs, but how she expresses herself. Been there, done that, and the t-shirt's in the closet. Find a partner that appreciates how you live your life, rather than a lady that wants to grab attention in public. It's not your job to change her behavior, your task is to find a compatible partner.
My two cents,
Nick

I like the friend idea...a trip to the range would be a good thing to try...but I wouldn't buy her another free meal.
