Good morning everyone.
I have a question about the spare mag that many of us carry.
Let me first say I've read a lot lately and cannot find an answer that I am content with.
I will admit though that I could have misread or unwilling skipped the correct portion of the law.
Anyway, my question is simply: under Texas law, is it unlawful to open carry magazine?
I ask this not because I wish to, but because I dont recall ever coming across this from the time I researched chls, to today that I have had it for a while now.
I understand many of us arent lawyers. But if you know where I should look, that would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

The only Texas law on possession of ammunition concerns convicted felons, and that is the same as federal law.
Having a visible magazine might draw unwanted attention, but it is not illegal in general public places (not the secure area of airports).
That said, there have been a few stories posted on the forum about police personnel becoming unduly agitated about magazines, holsters, and even fanny packs.

In my first CHL class, the instructor told us we could wear crossed bandoleers of ammo, just like Sgt. Rock (I had to explain who that was to my 21-year-old son). He didn't recommend it, but it's legal. We gotta conceal only the firearms.

As I understand it, I can even carry the loaded magazine into my daughter's school to pick her up. I disarm and leave my Sig locked in the car, but the mag stays with me (in my pocket, of course, not open-carried). It's one less thing to do as I get in & out of the car.

Sgt. Rock is by far the coolest dude I know! In the comic books. I remember-He was always well prepared!E10 wrote:In my first CHL class, the instructor told us we could wear crossed bandoleers of ammo, just like Sgt.
