All have posted very good points about what they would do.
Here is what I hope that I would do. As never having been faced with this. I would try to get to cover while still keeping an eye on the BG and another eye looking for other BG's. At the same time taking out the cell phone to call 911 and reaching for my weapon. At this point only cell phone would be out and hand on weapon. The whole time watching to take everything in to be a good witness. If he fired and shot the employee, I am not sure if I would take action other then being a good witness. Now if he turned towards me, then I would take action. This is all if I am in the store by myself.
If my wife was with me, I would do it different. First would be to make sure that she is safe and behind cover. I would then get the cell phone to call 911, but I would not keep my weapon in the holster, it would be in my hand in a low ready.
Loss of property and your CHL?

I don't know about ya'll, but I am rather fond of the clerk at my local Mobil station.
I know, I know.... we don't befriend people, cause they may be working for the gubmint However, I can chat with that dude for a good while, and sometimes do!
if somebody came in and pointed a gun at him (or his sister, who works there too), I believe I would take considerable exception to that.

1. how do you know the "BG" isn't an undercover LEO busting the clerk for dealing drugs?BoneDigger wrote:I realize that nobody likes "what if" scenarios. But, I have a question that I hope you guys can help me with. We often see gas stations and the such getting robbed, and occassionally someone gets shot, but in most cases there is no shooting. Some kid wants some fast cash for drugs or whatever, runs in, pulls a knife or gun, demands money and then splits.
So, lets say you are in a gas station/quickie mart and someone comes in and pulls a gun and demands money from the cashier. It seems likely from looking at the kid that he isn't planning to shoot anyone, he just wants his money. Would you draw your weapon, or just let the guy get the money and leave?
I realize as a CHL holder you can defend others if there is a risk of death, but where does that stop? I realize if a guy draws a weapon you may be able to safely assume he might use it, but if you have a feeling he won't then do you draw anyway to keep him/her from robbing the place, or on the assumption that he "might" shoot someone?
There was a robbery a while back on the news where while this one guy was robbing a store, the lady behind the desk had a heart attack. The robber didn't want anyone hurt so he even helped her call an ambulance. Just a guy down on his luck.
So what do you guys think?

2. what if the clerk was a drug dealer and the "BG's" brother has just died from drugs dealt to him/her by the clerk?
3. what if they're both drug dealers/gang bangers?
4. what if the "BG" was a father who knew that the clerk had just raped his daughter and was released on a technicality?
