You make a good point. Perhaps it is not FOIA. I believe I spoke incorrectly. My apologies.
Here is the quote from the Governor's website:
"If you want to view or obtain copies of agency records, please send a written request by hand delivery, mail, fax, OR e-mail to the following:"
We will see what I get.

I was curious enough that I have filed my very first Freedom of Information request. The text is simple, perhaps too simple, since this my first effort in this regard.
Request for Texas DPS policy regarding CHL firearms check
Show Details
I would like to obtain any records regarding Texas Department of Public Safety policy of disarming Texas Concealed Handgun Licensees at routine traffic stop encounters and then doing a records check on the serial number of the handgun for "Stolen" status.
This is happening across the state and would, on its face, seem to be a slap in the face to the integrity of a group who have been shown to be one of the most law abiding group of citizens in the state.
This was done through the Governors 'contact" page on his website
http://governor.state.tx.us/contact/PIRInfo.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I will post here if/when I get a reply. I have no idea how long that might take.
I'm not sure they will honor the request through a contact web page. Most of the FOIA requests I have done have to come via letter and signed. You also should let them know how much money you will be willing to spend before they contact you for additional copy charges. You can also state that anything over 30 pages be placed on to a CD instead of paper.
If you don't get anywhere with this, you may try separating your request:
Any disarm policy
Any SN check policy
How many SN checks from traffic stops
How many illegal guns found as a result of the the routine traffic stop check
They may not be able to provide everything because they don't track it but is worth a shot.

sorry guys, but I have refused to touch my weapon several times( been disarmed every stop) I will tell the LEO where its at and even hold up my shirt/jacket but never touch. I have never been tasered and I do so love the pain of tasering, they have ALWAYS run the SN on the weapon(comes back clean) and yes if its in my vehicle out of sight I just close the door and oops no touch now officer because them having to hunt for it is ILLEGAL after I tell them I refuse to allow a search and that when they remove my weapon it is under the color of the law and if not then its coercion and again illegal. oh and guess what when on duty I do and will refuse to disarm

This is a good forum . Do not pollute it with with trolling and false arguments . There is enough of that in play in our daily lives as it is . Speak as persons interested in helping each other and being truthful , may be a challenge to some but the rewards are more than you may expect .
I dont have a problem with any negative comments directed at Me , not the forum .

Just a clarification, in case people want to start googling how to perform these requests.CWOOD wrote:I was curious enough that I have filed my very first Freedom of Information request. . . .
Texas does not have a "Freedom of Information" process or statute. That is under federal law. Texas calls it a "Public Information Request". It used to be called an "Open Records Request"; although that term is outdated, many people still refer to it as an open records request.
Here is an explanation: Texas Public Information Act: FAQ.

Maybe you both would feel more comfortable on some other forum where everyone agrees with you.

Re: DPS Serial Number Check Strategy
That's a good strategy. After this year's regular session, and very special session, I see no good reason to give Texas our CHL fees. Better to pay some state with campus carry, open carry, and other good carry laws. If that keeps somebody out of the dumb disarm database then so much the better.Hoosier Daddy wrote:My strategy is DADT.
