Thanks. I think that is the way to go. There is just too much chance of getting a cart before a horse in this deal and ending up actually taking longer to straighten things out than otherwise it would take. I can carry just about any place, just like you guys can. I spent today looking for 30.06 signs and 50% signs, 226 tucked discretely away. ;-)

I saw one 30.06 sign but I think the type is too small. I saw one sign that unlicensed possession is forbidden...... I can live with that.

Finding the right house may be a problem. Because of my lung disease, and being on supplemental oxygen, I need a one story house with electric range, no gas, no open flame. I also need to be able to have some exterior antennas for radio purposes, not as easy as it sounds, or as I would have expected. The last time I put up an antenna in these parts, there was no permit, no restrictions, nobody TO ask if it was OK. Anyway, that rules out hundreds of homes that are for sale. That said, we've identified a couple of dozen possibles, and will be taking closer looks in the days ahead.

BTW, the TSA crawled all over my oxygen concentrator on the flight to San Antonio. It tested positive for explosives, strongly, they said. They finally cleared it but took their time, tested it every way, consulted, scratched their heads, etc. Could that be from being at an indoor range recently?
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Get a PO box at a UPS Store. It's expensive but it looks like a physical address. Then you can have UPS Store forward your mail to your home as that address changes. And this keeps your home location private.

Possible. But,
Do you need to clean any of the connections or any other part of the device? What do you use? Do you use a Hydrogen Peroxide based mouthwash, toothpaste? Get some on your hands and transfer the residue to the device? The analyzers are very sensitive and one of the components that they screen for is oxidizers. Concentrated H2O2 peroxide cleaners could leave enough residue and/or accumulate over time and lead to a false positive. This one of the reasons they limit fluid content. Toothpaste with whitener, hydrogen peroxide, will always test positive. Ditto H2O2 based anything.
I started investigating the explosive residue thing after my grandsons Tae Kwon Do uniform had tested positive after my daughter soaked it in OxyClean to remove some staining. They were traveling to the world championships and decide to carry on the uniform in a garment bag to reduce wrinkling. Big Mistake.

I've never cleaned any of the concentrator, or the charging apparatus, or the batteries, nor do they require it. I think the toothpaste we use has hydrogen peroxide in it, but they didn't check my teeth.... just about all of my other parts though. :grumble

I'm uncertain what to do about the return flight next week, other than show up plenty early. I've traveled with concentrators before, although not this particular one, and nobody has given them much of a look.

As others have said, welcome back home. Now with patience as shown above, I doubt we will find you in the "Waiting Room." :txflag:

Thanks. I'm back here now, looking for a house. It's a lot different than it used to be, that's for sure.

I was making a virtue of necessity, since I was not interested in buying a house here until the one we have in Coronado was sold. It wasn't so much a matter of the money but the timing of a sale there was, as we've seen, uncertain. I sold 3 houses in that village and all of them took 18-20 months or so. I just knew if I had a house for sale there while I had already moved here, the temptation to do something stupid, make a mistake etc. would be overwhelming.

I am, of course, mindful of the teachings of The Old Rancher, an older leathery skinned denizen of these parts who sometimes shared the Wisdom of the Ages with us young bucks now and then. The Old Rancher taught that houses are like girlfriends. The only thing worse than having none is having two! I have a little experience along that line myself, so his teachings resonated with me more so than usual.

I recommend you settle in Fredericksburg. We moved from Austin 6 months ago and love it here.

I have a SteppIR BigIR vertical for 80-6 at the moment, as well as a homebrew vertical, neither of which has been proven to work yet, as well as 2M/450 verticals. I bought the SteppIR used and was in the process of installing it on the dock behind our house. I discovered the switch on the 80 meter coil was broken, so sent it off to be replaced. When I got it back, we had an offer on the house, so I took down all the antennas, whereupon the sale cancelled. I didn't bother to put them back up, figuring another offer would come in any day. For the same reason, when my CCW permit was expiring I did not renew it figuring I would be moving soon, and here we are 2 years later!

BTW, our offer on a house was accepted this evening, after the customary amount for wheeling and dealing and haggling over details. We're leaving from Coronado June 14 and close escrow here June 18. The deals are very solid. All the inspections and appraisals on the Coronado sale have been approved and the contingencies lifted. The inspection on our new place will be Monday, and I head back to CA on Tuesday to get ready for the move.

Don't worry about 50% signs. But please watch out for 51% signs.

Fredericksburg is a charming town, no doubt about. I believe Vincent DiNino, long time and much revered Longhorn Band director, moved over there after he retired, although I think he has returned to Austin now, age 94, I believe. I've spent some time in Kerrville in my youth, and my sister lives there now.
