CCW ?
Texas has CHL
lots of prior discussions on legal services / insurance here previously
When I worked at a law office for over 25 years, (CIVIL, not CRIMINAL) Personal Injury firm, general rule was-if a person/company had no insurance, we wouldn't accept a case. Why go to the expense and front all the money, of a suit to win a piece pf paper saying you won something you'd never get paid, much less get paid back the original expense?
I saw one large uninsured concrete company with lots of assets do a bankruptcy to wipe out a judgement; same trucks/employees/ different signs-still in business now, under the new name/legal entity.

But if you had insurance, you might be worth suing ... (though civil immunity is in Texas for justified shoots)

Some here have some prepaid legal type thing, some don't. Personal decision, I don't have it, don't feel I need it, for any civil thing, and hope not to need it for any criminal thing.... statistically, I shouldn't....Personal decision. When I'm wealthier maybe ... I'm working on my Second Million now, gave up on making the first.

I believe they are based in South Houston. I meant to give them a call. I wanted to know what was the difference between them and [Pre-paid legal service].

Here's the answer for you... I don't want to seem to be advertising for them, so I won't embed the images here.
http://ccwsafe.com/concealed-carry-liab ... omparison/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

On the face of it, this seems to be very comprehensive coverage, including coverage for expert witnesses and investigators as well as criminal, civil and administrative matters.

I have no personal experience to say whether they actually deliver what they seem to be promising, but, in my opinion their promise appears to be quite comprehensive.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Their price is $100 per year, they are coming out soon with further discounts if you pay in advance for multiple years. I would probably never, ever need them, but sub-$100 per year is like losing a quarter a day every year; you'd hardly notice it. I might do it.
Sincerely,

How do their services differ from [Pre-paid legal service]?

Edit: Sorry, didn't see the question already asked!

On a different note....

I am not advocating either service. I have not been in the unfortunate circumstance to need them and no one who has is talking, so I guess the only way to find out if its money well spent is to need them (which I hope no one ever does).

But I seem to recall asking a similiar questions of [Pre-paid legal service] sometime ago when trying to make an informed decision and had my post removed (I can't seem to find them)/thread shutdown and several exchanges of PM's with moderators (can't find them anymore either).

For some reason, which I have not been able to fully determine, any discussion of [Pre-paid legal service] on this forum is frowned upon. So I am surprised talk of a similiar service has not been shutdown already. I don't know if the rub is because these services in general are not what they seem, something specific to [Pre-paid legal service] service or if there are any other reasons (ie. personal, legal, quality, etc.) not to rely on them.

IMHO, the price for either is small and the promise of what they deliver seems to be worth it, assuming they deliver. If you find your self in need of a lawyer, who are you going to call?

Unless you have a lawyer on retainer who specializes in this area of law or know one who you plan to call should you ever find yourself in need, you'll be in fix to find representation in a hurry. I would think from a legal standpoint, having immediate representation/legal advice could shield you from much grief and avoid mistakes when dealing with law enforcement that could hurt your case.

Anyone would be well advised to do their homework and have someone you can call if needed, whether a traditional lawyer on retainer or not or pre-paid service like what is being discussed.

I would imagine, any of the pre-paid services could at least get you through the initial contact with Law Enforcement after an event occured. If you find out later that they are not up to snuff you could alway seek other counsel. That is true of any counsel. I'm sure you are not bound to use their services and they can always be fired. Either way, unless you have been there before, you are trusting your fate to legal counsel that you are taking a chance on.

Having said all that, I am a member of [Pre-paid legal service]. Mainly because, I don't know who to call, I think the small price is worth the potential benefit and I can alway fire them if I feel I need to, but at least I have someone to call if needed. You could do worse, like picking a random name out of a phone book from jail.

We plan for the worse case by arming ourselves, we might as well plan the whole process out.

That reminds me I need to find a back up counsel just in case. Can anyone recommend any other adequate counsel in the Houston area?

Sometimes I really wish a lawyer would chime in and clear things up. Do we have any lawyers on this forum?

Well, there is an old saying about "if it seems to good to be true...."

Do people really believe that $100 per year will get you $100,000 in legal services?

If this was actually a regulated insurance product, approved by the Texas Insurance folk plus the state insurance authorities for all the other states where they do business, then they might have some credibility as insurance is a highly regulated industry that requires underwriting reserves be kept.

But they are quite quick to point out that it is not insurance. So what the heck are you really buying? Again, do people really believe that $100 per year will get you $100,000 in legal services? It just doesn't pass the straight face test.

No it will not, but I have [Pre-paid legal service] anyway. They will not give you the $100,000 service because all that they cover is the cost of the attorneys. Things like expert witnesses and/or lab testing still come out of your pocket (and these can be huge expenses). Why do I have it? So that I have a phone number that will be answered 24/7 and connects me directly to an attorney that knows the CHL laws.

To me, that could make a big difference in the first few critical hours after an event. Of course, YMMV. :tiphat:
