First day of concealed carry.

#1

Post by Redneck_Buddha »

So I received my Texas CHL in the mail yesterday and today was my first day packin'. Wore a collarless, XL shirt untucked, and XL is my normal size. I use a leather super-tuck IWB holster clipped on to a leather belt and jeans to conceal my Springfield Armory XDS. I must say, even though the shirt was not super puffy, the high quality of the holster and the super slim profile of the XDS made for a comfortable and flawless carry experience. My recent weight loss and my jeans being an inch or so too big helped, I'm sure. Also, I DID carry with a chambered round.

We ate lunch at the Arboretum and were in line with three APD, and then went to have some frozen yogurt. Went to the gym and carried my firearm in my gym bag which I always lock up with a heavy duty Master.

All in all an uneventful and seamless experience. Just gotta keep shooting and watching those tac videos on Panteao Productions!

So, the gun didn't make you do evil things like my sister-in-law thinks? :evil2:

Congrats on getting your license!

How do you like the XDS? Looking at them myself. Had a G36 for a while but found it had a little more recoil than my G23 so went back to the 23. Would like the XDS if the recoil is closer to the 23 than the 36.

I haven't shot the 36, but the XDs sure is a great gun.

Congrats. It is a great feeling to know that you are able to carry and be prepared.

The entire XD/XDm series are great guns. No reason to expect any less from the XDS.

Thanks y'all! Got a "verbal" exemption from my boss's boss to carry at work, but the handbook says what it says so...

congratulations! I didn't see anyone say this so I will add it in. I carry at the gym (when I go) I tuck in a muscle shirt and wear a shirt of the same color over it. All of which is black. The only position I have found for myself to work for every position is right at 3 o clock. I truly prefer about 4.5-5 and I am faster at apendix carry. However, I can sit, drive, wrestle with my little girls etc and 3 o clock is what works. Hardest to conceal for me though.

Good luck and congratulations!

'Tacular - the policy is pretty clear, so I don't plan to carry at work or ask for a written exemption.

1S1K52 - Regarding the gym, I do agree that a large fitness center is a prime risk area for an active shooter, and I fully support that you CC during your workout. I may explore ways to make it work for me.

I have only been carrying for about 2 years and that was the only place I have ever really been nervous to carry. I spent about a week solid if you combined all the time drawing from that setup till I found a comfortable "method". There are more comfortable ways I have seen out there. This works for me for now. We are not supposed to carry at work either. I personally have not. I know some people who have if called out in a late shift. To each his own with that I suppose. Good luck
