First carry in church!

#1

Post by MikeStone »

Well I carried in church for the first time today. (IWB, tucked shirt, sport coat)

I was rather nervous! I know that no one could see, but I didn't love the feel of IWB with a tucked shirt. I have a White Hat Max Tuck which is supposed to be a good tuckable, couldn't seem to get the tuck to not pull my shirt all funky. Guess I'll have to play with it.

Couldn't help but think some wacko would consider Christmas Eve a good time to outdo the other nut-jobs.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I carry in church every Sunday, and I'm the one preaching :)... no jacket, Deep Conceal holster. It was a little weird at first, not anymore, once you realize even when everybody is actually watching you, they still can't see it. :thumbs2: :patriot:

Me too. I use a Crossbreed Supertuck. I tried tucking last sunday but felt it looked too wierd. I'd probably only do that with a sports coat.

My wife carried on body at church for the first time last night at our christmas eve service. We havn't quite found the best rig for her yet. Waiting on a Galco belly band I ordered last week to be shipped. NOTHING gun related seems to be processed quickly right now. :banghead:

Merry Christmas

Ditto, except I'm the old fat guy with the headband, playing a guitar..........and I don't conceal any different that normal, because it works: XDm-45 Compact 3.8 in a Hopp Custom Leather OWB holster with matching mag carrier on the other side, under an untucked shirt, no jacket. Believe me, the only people who know are those who I don't care if they know, and they can't tell unless they ask me if I'm carrying. They're always surprised. Even "trained observers" like LEOs don't know unless we've had that conversation.

It is good to be careful, but sometimes CHLs worry too much. People just aren't that observant.

I carry two Glock 26s to church, one in a Nemesis pocket holster, the other IWB in a Tuck This 2 ... but I do not tuck my round bottomed-DRESS UP-Mexican Wedding Shirt (Guayabera shirt)

Those two Glocks are supplemented by the Taurus PT92 in a Black Wilderness Safepacker, which looks a lot like a Bible case ( I carry it to toss to the retired LEO/CHL or his girlfriend who is a CHL, in case they forgot theirs, or to a new Deacon who has his CHL.)

I was "drafted" into playing in our bell choir for Christmas eve by our music director. We played two services and I had my Sig in a Kangaroo carry for both with nothing more than a tucked dress shirt. I was in the first row on the stage and to ring the bells, I had to extend my hand forward and up, exposing the whole area where the gun was. Noone noticed.

An extra bulge or two (I had a spare mag) goes completely unnoticed. The first time that I was in front of the church, I was a bit nervous, too. Since then, I never even think about the gun itself. I do remain vigilant about what is happening in the back of the church. From my vantage point, I would see something abnormal before anyone else in the congregation.

I also carried in church for the first time yesterday. Had my Taurus PT145 in a Fobus paddle holster with an untucked button up shirt.

I volunteer a lot at my Church, ushering, playing the trumpet (solos and ensembles), etc. No issues so far. But the biggest issue I have while at church are the "hugs". Be sure to lead with you strong side arm, minimizes the other from touching the firearm when they wrap their arm around your waist.

I have been carrying in church since I got my CHL (12 years). Pastor and 1 of the associate pastors know (I took them to take their class when I took my last renewal). I have a couple of carry methods depending on what I wear. Either IWB or vest pocket. I also always have a BUG in my back pocket. Never a problem

Been carrying in church for almost a year now. Used to be Glock 23, now S&W MP Shield. I also know there's at least 3 others in my congregation!
To the carrying preacher previous commentor; had a CHL preacher once say he carried in the pulpit because that made him the only one looking the right way if trouble occured!

I am one of those "pistol packin' preachers". More accurately, I am pistol packing priest. Being in an Anglican church, I wear traditional vestments during the service on Sunday mornings. There is no quick draw solution with all that I am wearing, but I do have very large wood and marble altar to use as cover until I can get the pistol into play. I know of at least two others who carry on Sundays and some others who have CHLs but don't carry often.

Most people have no clue so I don't worry about it. I am also sure that a few have bumped against it as hugs are exchanged after the service. Either they know what it is and don't care, or think it is my phone.

Which goes to they weren't looking for it. I have heard it said and have a few experiences that bear this out, "Most people wouldn't notice if you were carrying in your hand."

Anecdotally: My son-in-law got his CHL a couple of years ago and came up to me during the "meet and greet" part of services and said in a conversational tone, "I've got my gun on." I did my best Archie Bunker and hissed, "Stifle it wills ya." A couple of weeks later he comes in wearing a belly band and I could virtually read the S/N off off the Glock. His toddler daughter was tapping on it one time during services. Afterwards I said, "Son, we need to talk..." All is well now.

I added this to say that, with people all around and things said aloud and or telegraphed vis printing, no one noticed or didn't care. Carry away and be secure in the knowledge that you are proactively protecting your family and your brothers and sisters.

I carry a G23. Doing research on the Shield. Sure wish I could find one.
