30.06 Posting at Memorial Hermann SW Heart & Vascular Center

#1

Post by M9FAN »

I was at the Memorial Hermann Southwest Heart and Vascular Center (7600 Beechnut, Houston) Monday and Tuesday of this week for a surgery that my father has since undergone.

On both days my dad & I entered the building through the MAIN entrance at the FRONT of the building, and there are absolutely no 30.06 postings, no gun buster signs, no signs of any sort that mention prohibited weapons on the property.

Yesterday I entered the main entrance with my XD45 on my hip, spent 6 hours waiting on the 2nd floor, had lunch at the little deli on the 1st floor, walked over to the deli's adjacent patio dining area (at the back of the building), looked out the widow on to the patio and noticed this sign on the outside patio wall:

Since I have to return to this same facility in a few weeks, I am anxious to hear what you fellas think and have to say.

Thanks.

While on your initial visits, when you truly did not see the sign, carry away

HOWEVER,
Now that you have been "officially notified", you would be intentionally breaking the law if you continue to carry. (assuming the hospital is not government owned (I have no clue if it is, but I assume it is not) and the sign looks like it fits the definition)

:iagree: You have now received notice since you have seen the sign. While the statute says it must be displayed in a conspicuous place, that is not really defined. They don't have to post every entrance, just conspicuously and must meet the requirements in wording and size, which that one apparently does.

I completely understand what has been said about effective notice here. However, I am curious as to why this hospital (or any of the other places that have done this sort of thing) wouldn't post the MAIN entrance, if the objective is to keep folks with legal concealed weapons out? Its this sort of stuff that doesn't make any sense. I wish the law stated it has to be on the main entrance, or entrances if there are more than one main entrance such as a hospital or shopping center, at minimum, to be properly posted. That way, no guesswork, just direct and to the point. When they take the time to post the correct language, but where most folks aren't going to see it, it feels like something sneaky going on. And I'm not a fan of sneaky when it comes to the law.

I will NOT be carrying on my next visit but, like Heartland Patriot, I am perplexed/confused/agitated. What if I had not wandered downstairs for a bite to eat and then around the corner to have a look at the outside patio...

Maybe they just don't want firearms on the patio?

Posting the patio doesn't necessarily imply all the buildings are posted. Does it?

Yeh.....I like Frogs thinking....so next time don't go out onto the patio with your gun...just stay in the building....

this is why whenever I go to a mall, I will find a small entry, those are typically not posted, if anything is, that will be the only entry I EVER use....ever!!!! that way there is never, ever a problem....if at some point I find out that the mall is not posted, fine, I might use other entries. If at some point I find out that the mall is posted....well, no one in authority has told me about it and I haven't use an entry that is posted....meanwhile, I'll work on finding another place to shop.
