Maybe for now I can clear the weapon and hide the gun and ammo in separate spots as well as use the lock that came with the pistol.

I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

That's cool, but it really is going to depend on exactly what their policy says. If it doesn't say it is okay then it won't be.
