Outdoor Range?
My wife had her license in Oklahoma, but now that I've returned her to her homeland, she'd like to get her Texas CHL. We're in Hurst, and can go pretty much anyplace in the metroplex for this, but she's not comfortable shooting at an indoor range. Any recommendations for a good class for women that uses an outdoor range for the qualification portion of the class?

Re: Outdoor Range?
These guys are in McKinney and use a Private outdoor range in Mckinney. They are active duty Police Officers and trainers.

Our own moderator Crossfire does classes at Cabela's in Fort Worth and we do the qualifications at an outdoor range. I would highly recommend her class!!

Re: Outdoor Range?
Wes, do you think that she might change her mind about indoors shooting if she were hanging out with other ladies? If so, she might want to check out Shoot Smart's ladies nights (Thursdays, if I remember right). That range doesn't have a claustrophobic feel to it - good ventilation and the shooting lanes aren't tight even for a bigger guy like me. The range is just south of Cabela's on the west side of IH-35 between Golden Triangle and Heritage Trace Parkway. CHL classes at Shoot Smart are $100 even (at least they were when I did mine a while ago). I am not sure whether they do women's only classes.Wes Kenney wrote:My wife had her license in Oklahoma, but now that I've returned her to her homeland, she'd like to get her Texas CHL. If that won't work, there's Quail Creek just west of the intersection of SH1171 and IH-35W, just north of the speedway. if that's not where Crossfire does his class shooting, then they too also offer CHL classes there. Don't remember their prices.

Re: Outdoor Range?
I don't know if they do any CHL classes there but you chould check with Elm Fork outdoor range. It is in Dallas off of North West Highway just a couple miles east of 114. Also Great Southwest Gun Range is an indoor range in Grand Prairie, everyone there is really nice it is off 360 and Division at Great Southwest Dr.Wes Kenney wrote:My wife had her license in Oklahoma, but now that I've returned her to her homeland, she'd like to get her Texas CHL. Re: Outdoor Range?
As others have mentioned, our own moderator, Crossfire is an excellent CHL instructor who is highly competent with women shooters. She teaches at Cabelas if Ft Worth. For someone on the Dallas area, I highly recommend Larry Bartek. He teaches in Plano and qualifies shooters at DPC, an outdoor range. He is also a most competent women's instructor.Wes Kenney wrote:My wife had her license in Oklahoma, but now that I've returned her to her homeland, she'd like to get her Texas CHL. Re: Outdoor Range?
I understand her feelings about outdoor ranges. This is a sport and why be cooped up inside paying higher range fees?
