As of last weekend, there really weren't any crowds / lines. My kids were able to repeatedly go on the roller coaster with basically no line (they had to wait for 1 car every other ride).

Considering that the Pleasure Pier opened less than two weeks ago, the school year just ended, and the kiddies are nowhere near going stir-crazy yet, attendance is just beginning to ramp up.

Driving there and parking is going to be the bottleneck. There is one paid parking lot across Seawall Boulevard. You can't legally park on the adjacent streets. (I don't know whether violators get ticketed, towed, or booted.)

There is a shuttle that goes to the Strand area, the Pleasure Pier, Moody Gardens, and a few other stops. Unfortunately there is no designated place for large numbers of people to park away from the Pleasure Pier. They are working on that—really. It may be tied into cruise ship parking.

BTW I ride my bicycle by the Pleasure Pier at least once a week. I've been going by more often just to see how things are going.

Based on my exhaustive research this weekend, I would say that the number of visitors has stabilized at a reasonable level. You can drive to the Pleasure Pier and park, and the crowds are not huge.

Apparently Memorial Day was crowded with the people who absolutely had to be there first. Those people got it out of their system.

The hours are not real regular. I would recommend going as early as possible. Little kids probably will flame out early anyway.

Just visited Galveston last week and ran into no 30.06 or 51% signs anywhere, including pleasure pier.

I found this on the Pleasure pier website how does it pertain to CHL holder

Prohibited Items
In addition to the restrictions mentioned under our Food & Beverage Policy, the following items are not permitted on the Pier:
Lawn chairs and folding chairs
Markers, spray paint and aerosol cans
Knives
Chains
Spiked clothing or jewelry
Fireworks and explosives
Firearms and ammunition
Chemical weapons including mace or pepper spray
Bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades and surf boards
(Bicycles must be parked and secured at designated bike racks in the Fish Tales parking lot. Pleasure Pier is not responsible for items that are stolen or left unattended)
All bags, backpacks and packages are subject to inspection prior to entering the Pier.

Its meaningless to the real world and completely irrelevant to CHL holders. Is Pleasure Pier city owned property?

It means they would prefer that you not bring those items and probably will prohibit entry or ask you to leave if you have them.

As far as I can tell the security personnel only look at the people who are entering. With dozens of people per minute entering at times, they really couldn't do anything more.

Some of the rides go upside down, so a good holster would be in order and extra ammo should be secure.

The quick answer is no. Landry's bought the city's interest around 2005.

The complete answer may be more complicated. The federal government built the pier shortly after WW II. Later the feds gave it to the city, which leased it to the builder of the Flagship Hotel in the 1960s. Since that time state law on the ownership of property that is on the beach or underwater changed. I don't know who owns the underlying real estate now.

I went to the pier on Saturday, January 11th, 2014. There is a new LARGE .30-06 sign posted on the wall next to the ramp you have to walk up to approach the entrance. Its a legal .30-06 sign with the proper language. Unfortunately I had to return to my vehicle and secure my handgun.

This sign was NOT there during the summer of 2013 as I went around that time and did not see this sign. I carried back onto the pier when I was there during the summer.

I will not return to Pleasure Pier again due to the newly posted sign.

I posted my comments on Texas .30-06.com. If you have not used that website, please create a log-in ID and contribute. It is nice to have that site as a resource for all.

Thanks for the post. That is good information to know.

I still can't see a $10 fee just to walk on the pier and look.

We visited Galveston, briefly, while en route to our Christmas cruise this year, I know, Seamus, I should have let you know but we were kind of spur of the moment, and now my wife has decided we need to move there.
