...and when the real police show up, you're standing there with a smoking gun in your hand. Guess who the real police will start shooting at?mjoplin wrote:Not unless they started shooting.

Why would I be standing around with a gun in my hand?Oldgringo wrote:...and when the real police show up, you're standing there with a smoking gun in your hand. Guess who the real police will start shooting at?mjoplin wrote:Not unless they started shooting.

...I guess if all you want to see is the worst case scenario, that's it...but can you post two stories of where it actually happened that way??? Give MOST LEOs more credit than that...

Yup. Depends.
That said, I won't go down without a fight and I won't stand around or lay down and let someone else get executed by some thug.

Oldgringo, that's exactly what the anti-campus-carry people say. I've never been confronted by police while holding a gun, but wouldn't they say something like "Drop it!" first? Usually the good guys do drop it right? I'm sure the police are more worried about those that don't drop it when told to do so (those usually being the bad guys).

If you have draw or shoot and the police arrive, be prepared to be treated like a bad guy until everybody is in cuffs and they sort it out in a controlled environment. While you're holding your gun and they're scared for their life is not the time to engage in discussion.
Every set of handcuffs the police carry have a little hole where they can put a key when/if they figure out you weren't the bad guy.
I agree with others, I'm not a vigilante. I'll defend my life, my family's life, and the life of a stranger where my intervention would've made the clear difference.
They can have my money, but not my wallet. . .after all. . . that's where my CHL is. If they take that and leave me with my gun, I'd be breaking the law!!!

Concealed means concealed, not in an active fire fight, to me it goes immediately back where it belongs.Dave2 wrote:Why would I be standing around with a gun in my hand?Oldgringo wrote:...and when the real police show up, you're standing there with a smoking gun in your hand. There is too much at stake to start shooting unless they were shooting at me or my family. I would imagine the hell you would havemjoplin wrote:Not unless they started shooting.
to go through if someone other than the perps get hurt.
I consider my CHL and my gun for my protection and the protection of those I care about.

And I respect that. We are not required to act.RockingRook wrote:There is too much at stake to start shooting unless they were shooting at me or my family. I would imagine the heck you would havemjoplin wrote:Not unless they started shooting.

Where I do my banking I have developed a good relationship with a couple of the tellers there. If someone came in and started shooting at those girls, yes I'd draw and stop the threat. Otherwise, it's witness time baby!!

I suppose if the cops walk in on an ongoing shootout I could be in a world of hurt, but I don't see how that's much worse than the bank robbers trying to kill me.

Re: Would you draw if your in a bank while it's getting robb
While I understand the need for some physical locations, the last time I was in a "bank" was when I closed out my Wells Fargo account. USAA is awesome! As far as if I would draw, I think this can basically be applied to any robbery. Businesses have insurance against things like this, if it's just for money, go ahead. But if it looks like people are going to die, I'm gonna do what I can to stop that. The question was asked about "standing there with a gun in your hand". If I draw my weapon someone is getting shot and when the threat is ended I reholster. That's not machismo, it's just a decision I've made. It'd take a lot to deter me once I got to the point where I felt the gun needed to come out.
Re: Would you draw if your in a bank while it's getting robb
A decision to make is concerning the threat to another person's life. If the robber has a gun out and is pointing it at somebody, e.g. a teller, what are you going to do, wait until he murders the teller and THEN say, "well, he's shooting people, so I'd better intervene now..." It's a tough call.
