This one may be legal to post. The only record in the CAD for taxes shows property for Crosby Fair & Rodeo Inc as the owner, not Harris County. Here is the link to the record http://www.hcad.org/records/details.asp ... bld=1&tab=" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So, if the county has turned this land over to a private corporation to run, then they can post it as they see fit.
...same like the Ft. Worth Zoo, where the city owns it but it's managed by an Association...I guess...still doesn't seem right...???

I think by "turned over" he means that the city no longer owns it. According to the link above, the owner is "CROSBY FAIR & RODEO INC". Whereas the Fort Worth Zoo is owned by the city of Fort Worth and managed by the Fort Worth Zoological Association. Therefore their postings are invalid. Same as the Dallas Zoo. And yes, I've carried right past their 30.06 signs as if they didn't even exist.
...sounds like a lot of monkey business to me...last time I took my boy...22 years ago...they had toothless lions that looked like rent house carpet and the place was filthy...haven't been back...never have gone to Dallas Zoo...don't want to leave my car on the lot where the animals can get to it...

How is it monkey business? The Crosby Fair & Rodeo grounds are privately owned. They can post 30.06 if they want. I know that I won't be going there because of it (not that I had any interest in going anyway).
Or did you mean the zoos? Both the Dallas & Fort Worth Zoos are city owned but privately managed. So their 30.06s are invalid and unenforceable. So, as lots of people here say, "concealed is concealed" and "carry away".
...relax...I was being punny, not questioning your facts...but while we're on the subject, I'm tired of socialist "associations and corporations" who want my money but want to treat me as second-class by inflicting their anti-gun opinions on me...I'm just grousing...

Actually nothing like the FW Zoo. The Crosby Fair and Rodeo Grounds are privately owned. It can't be any more clear.
As an aside, I don't understand why a dog show would be posted, but a rodeo or fair wouldn't..not that anything should be at all. It sounds like the operator of the show wants to post....I'll reserve comment about them, as funny, and offensive as it might me. All those crazy people and their dogs I guess.

You're right. Call me socialist, but I think private property owners rights should be revoked. As long as I get my rights and the right to control other peoples rights, I'm good.
Disclaimer, in case it's no obvious, I'm being facetious.

I remember the Crosby Rodeo Grounds as being an FFA facility when I was showing animals in high school Ag in the early 60's. Could be wrong and of course things change.
Edit: Although the c/o "owner" and organization are listed as 'Inc' its tax exempt.

...so the buttskis own the private property...and they have the right to post it...then they ask the public to donate to their programs...and they host skeet shoots...it's just more of the hypocritical guff that we get from a lot of businesses...we want your money, but we want to deny your right to carry...p.s. don't look to us to protect you...security costs too much...it's all about our money and not about us...all socialists are hypocrites...but not all hypocrites are socialists...

Looks like crow for lunch today. Was it ever owned by Crosby or the County? Records show it's been under the same private ownership back to 2006.
...but they have a gov't exemption on land and property X1 whatever that means...???
Private property rights are private property rights.
I don't care how much I don't like how someone does things, or allows things to be done on private property, I'll stand up for their rights to do so.
But we're off topic, the subject was mistakenly misapplying state law to someone that it doesn't apply to, or better, is also granted rights by the law. Anyway, lesson learned about assuming. We all need a "check" every now and then.
speedsix wrote:...but they have a gov't exemption on land and property X1 whatever that means...???
This is what raises questions in my mind. There are some interesting areas of property tax law and exemptions. The governmental exemption coul dbe wrong because a charity is also totally exempt. It could be the property is owned by the government still and the rodeo company leases it. Then the leasehold value is taxable normally because the government only gets the exemption when it is used for a governmental purpose. But they could keep the governmental exemption showing if the company is a charity like this.
And it is possible that the rodeo company is owned by the city or some other governmental agency like the school district. This would still be a governmental agency for the tax exemption and the 30.06. One common example of this is a water or electric company. A lot of them are owned by the local municipality but are set up as corporations. This can be checked by searching the secretary of state records. They charge for a search, so I did not do it right now.
So, this one is a very gray area and the tax record is not 100% conclusive. I recommend erring on the side of caution unless there is more evidence. Don't carry there until you are sure it is truly government property.
The Crosby Fair & Rodeo, Inc. is a private, non-profit Corporation in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Internal Revenue Service and those of the State of Texas. This organization is dedicated to the support of Crosby area Youth and Education! In addition to sponsoring the annual Fair, Crosby Fair & Rodeo, Inc. is actively supporting many students with scholarships in order to assist them in continuing their educations.
So, they are listed on the tax records as owning the property, and I would think it would go hand in hand in this case. It is possible the land was given to them by the county at some previous date. I know that happened in my home county for the fairgrounds. It was owned and maintained by a non-profit board until they disbanded. At that point the land went back to the county per the original contract.

I am particularly interested in the posting of a 30.06 sign where only a portion of a building is being used for an activity that is statutorily off-limits to CHL's. For example, some cities are putting a court clerk's office in city hall and declaring the entire building off-limits. At least one city has posted its library with 30.06 signs, solely because one of its schools occasionally has class field days there on "library days."
Thanks,
Chas.
The City of Pittsburg has the sign on City Hall. There are no judges, chiefs, Law Enforcement, or other in that building. Only the mayor... but he is a magistrate.
The Second Amendment is not about your Right to Keep and Bear Arms... it is about your Responsibility to the Security of a "Free State"!

The only thing that matters is if court proceedings are held in that building. Sounds like there is, thus off limits regardless of signs or who offices there.
