Will having TWIC card help with process

#1

Post by Topdog77c »

My job requires a TWIC card for employment. This process requires a Federal security back ground check. Would having this on my file help speed up the process?

Unfortunately no. There are several agencies (local, state and federal) that get sent your info to review. Time just hinges on how fast they return the results. We have never seen anyone that has a high level security clearance get approved any faster than those without.

Nope. a TWIC just means you passed the "security threat assessment (STA)" (basically seeing if you are a terrorist or have any terrorists ties). I've worked with ex-cons that have TWICs.

I have a TWIC, CDL with hazmat, former Marine, ex-cop, had an FFL for 15 years and it still took 3 months to get my CHL. It's all luck of the draw on how quick or slow it takes.

Heck I'm a current cop and mine wasn't what I would call fast. It was cheap, but not fast.

If you pass, and a traveler, its a good time to go ahead and get a global entry permit. One more extensive background check, but it lets you use the short lines when returning from out side the US. I picked up the Nexus ( to and from Canada) and Global entry. The CHL and TWIC dont help, but at least you already know your gonna get the global entry, its just a matter of waiting.

I tried to get a TWIC card when they first came out, I took my DL and CHL, they wouldn't take the CHL, I never got one. I only have one customer who requires it, so I get escorted when I go there. ;-)

Yeah, they're a stickler for rules (on what you need to have to get it). Did you do the online application first? It takes a PhD to figure out their password requirements.

No, I set up an appointment and went unprepared. But only having a need for it twice a year it's to justify the cost and hassle.
